From what I saw, Dead Link isn't actually 3D, and it seems like another Soldat game but slower and stranger. I had my hopes up way too high.

It will probably take 3 years before it gets released. Don't get excited.

The Noctis community waits longer still.

At least Link Dead gives occasional status reports.

I have high hopes. I'm pretty sure it was never going to be 3D, the graphics are already looking amazing for a 2D game (dynamic lighting and shizz), and I haven't ever played a good 2D team shooter besides soldat. The classes look pretty generic, but I'm interested in their modability and such.

Link Dead was never imagined, said, or even once mentioned to be 3D, so I'm not sure where you got that idea from.

A game doesn't have to be 3D to be very graphically impressive. For examples look to stuff like Odin Sphere.
The tech going into this will make it look very nice, you should check out Sigvatrs blog.
