Will the Soldat LAN be fixed?
« on: March 31, 2009, 06:57:07 pm »
I was wondering in the new version if the LAN for soldat will be fixed. Whenever I press I can't seem to find any servers or anything. Just wondering if they're gonna fix or it's just gonna stay there as a feature to look at.

well, first you need to be connected to a lan, and a soldat server should be running in lan mode, not internet
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

...I've already done that...and I've clicked on LAN, but it still doesn't work.

I don't think LAN has ever worked.
Just host a server over the internet and use it. Slightly more lag but just barely.

Soldat's LAN server browser has not worked for years. What I suggest is to download the Soldat Dedicated Server to one of your computers (the one you'd run the LAN server on), start it, then have your computers in your LAN connect to it using the local IP address of that computer. (eg, might be something like 192.168.1.5). And on the computer it's running you can easily connect to it with 127.0.0.1 or localhost.

Yeah LAN may be fixed one day, who knows. In the mean time, you can google search for 'SolSearch' and you may find the program I made afew years ago that scans your LAN for Soldat servers. It should still work.

LAN works fine, it has always worked fine.

The lobby does not work though. You just have to type in the local IP (192.168.x.x) and port of the server.

I tried using the LAN thingo and it just froze on me. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Thank you jrgp and other members for providing some info about how to set up a LAN game. I'll definately use it.

It's just that kinda...Few people use LAN, internet is wider, and more popular to use, besides the fact not many people are willing to host LAN servers. Right???

LAN is so people can join one game without using the internet, you just need to connect some computers, and one person hosts.

What I dislike about LAN games is ping 0 problem. Maybe you have noticed that when you are playing over the LAN sometimes gosteks are "leaping" and for example you cannot shoot minigun (on your screen it seems you can but you cause no damage at all). I think it's common known issue so I won't go into details.

LAN is just multiple computers hooked up to either a hub or directly. The two computers then connect to each other in Soldat and bingo - there's a game.

Yeah... sometimes with Soldat it isn't that simple...

As I found out today. Turns out it's much harder than I originally planned. I connected up the two PCs and started up Soldat on both. Nothing happened. I remembered that I needed to start a dedicated server before starting Soldat. Once started, I could finally see the other player in the map.

For most of the game they were a bit laggy. I'm a bit confused because Soldat is much more "simpler" than other games and it lags, not like some 3D games. Any reason why? Also is there a way to chnage maps within the Soldat gameplay? A command?

Ah yeah there is. But it may differ depending on what kind of game you're playing and if it uses a special command system. Usually, if you're admin you can change map with something like: /changemap ctf_ash. Alternatively you could add several maps to the loop, then just time something like !nextmap.

The command is "/map ctf_Ash"
Remember that it is case sensitive.

About lagginess - soldat doesn't have the best netcode and I've found the best games are had at 50-100 ping.
