Surreal fucking night...
« on: April 05, 2009, 02:09:14 pm »
The strangest thing...have you ever had that nagging suspicion that you're dreaming when you're otherwise convinced that you're fully awake?

I was having trouble sleeping last night so kept walking downstairs for a glass of water every time I awoke. And each time I would find my roommates hanging out in our living room, so I'd join them for a bit before heading back to sleep, only to wake and repeat the entire process again some time later.

We were doing the weirdest things, though. I would come downstairs and my roommates were sipping fine liquor, which we have none of and that's something we never do anyway, especially late at night. And Tina had work in the morning, she never stays up late before work. Two of my other roommates never stay awake past 1:00 unless we're having a party, and Uri, who was asleep, never goes to sleep if the rest of us are awake.

Thinking about this in my bed, I suddenly fully awoke, convinced that I had been dreaming all along. But when I went downstairs, one of my roommates yelled "Yay, he's back!" and they all lift their glasses to my return. Imagine my surprise, because I'm still half convinced that they're all figments of my imagination. And I tell them as much, which turns out to be a mistake because they all start poking fun at me for thinking that they were a dream, which I know is going to be an in-house joke for a long time to come.

They finally set me right and bring me back to reality, then pull out my guitar and suggest that I play them a tune. I shouldn't, I say, because I haven't played in months since I removed all of my old strings and I don't have any new ones. But there my guitar was: all strung up and clean, somehow tuned to perfection and inexplicably downstairs despite the fact that I had just woken up next to it.

I was still dreaming.

The sudden shock woke me up and I sat bolt upright in bed. I was so confused. How could I have been in a dream all along and why hadn't I noticed that something was wrong earlier? And then I look around the room and realize something: I'm in my old room in my parents' house, but I haven't lived there for years.

Again, the sudden shock wakes me up and I sit bolt upright in bed. I look around. It's the correct room. Finally. I seem to have fallen asleep with all of my clothes on, including my glasses, but this time I really am awake. I'm certain of it. But hell if I'm going to go downstairs to see if my roommates are down there. So I take my glasses off and place them where I always do. I pull the covers over myself and I drift back to sleep.

I finally awake in the morning confused as hell about what happened last night, but I'm glad I at least figured it all out and managed to get some real sleep. Then I reach for my glasses in that place where I always place them, but they aren't there.

Bad news mate. You just dreamed that you posted about your weird-ass false awakening filled night on soldat forums. Next up: fleshlight dueling with Chakra.

Godspeed.

Epic.
I love it, beside the fact (that it's a true story?)
Oh and Demonic you might wanna be more considering about dreamers' feelings! They are humans after all! (Or imagine themselves to be)

Man, that is some freaky stuff Vijit.  Were did your glasses end up being?  I've never had anything like this.  I find it amazing that you can still remember everything that happened so clear.  When I dream and wake up, I can never remember what happened.

Was there any other details in your dream that felt out of place?

And let's see, maybe it will happen again tonight!

Fleshlight dueling with Chakra. Well if I don't dream it, I'm certainly putting it on my agenda.

My glasses somehow ended up sandwiched in my closed laptop which was under my bed. I have no idea how they got there.

Even my shroom flashbacks weren't this confusing. At least then I knew I was hallucinating.

This happened all the time when I was a kid, usually got to the bathroom, where I'd repeat the cycle of waking up and then finding out it's a dream, and then waking up again to find out that's a dream.

I still get dreams that are just repeats of those I had in the past. Like getting eaten by T-Rex's and such. Mostly just getting eaten by T-Rex's.

Nice dream though, I'd kill to have one that I could think about later without pangs of pain in my side as imaginary teeths the size of large machetes sink into me and pull me apart.

I have seen a terror movie once with same subject, "dream-into-dream". It was great.

On the rare occasion I have been aware I was dreaming. It gives you this wierd feeling of being able to control what happens, instead of just playing out your part in the dream according to some script or whatever.

It's a good story. I have insomnia from time to time, and when I do, I'll sleep for 15 minutes at a time. This often unlocks the strangest dreams, but I do enjoy it. Though I'd rather have a good nights sleep.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

Oh man, even though its confusing as f**k, I'd kill to have one of those. Currently I just get lame dreams.

1. Get a fan.
2. Point it at your face.
3. Turn it on to the lowest setting.
4. Fall asleep.
The quickest way to give yourself vivid dreams without taking drugs. It doesn't work for everyone, though.

Maybe last night you were secretly browsing the soldat forums under your bed? xD

And I thought that was a dream...

Nice. Along the same lines, try watching other movies with that theme. You might not understand why I've selected these movies at first since almost none have anything to do with dreaming, but you'll soon see that they all deal with the problems of traveling through multiple existences, worlds, or times without ever being certain that you're fully conscious of your true surroundings:
  • eXistenZ, about the confusion that occurs while traveling through virtual worlds within virtual worlds (not the best movie, but it could trigger some interesting thoughts).
  • Possible Worlds (the link is for the wiki entry on the play, which has a better analysis), in which a man exists in multiple dimensions simultaneously and has to reconcile the differences between all of them.
  • Primer, in which two engineers deal with the moral implications and increasing complexity of repetitive back-tracking through time, but the movie intentionally shifts between different timelines without warning and you're left to figure it all out on your own (you may need to read some analyses online to fully understand what's happening, and I've seen at least one brilliant diagram of every timeline in the movie...and there are at least nine).
And then you can always go for the classic 1999 movies The Matrix or The Thirteenth Floor, or simply read the reams of text already written on the subject (dating back to Plato's allegory of the cave, for example, or Descartes' Meditations on First Philosophy).

I stayed two nights in a hotel with a fan pointed at my face from afar. Vivid dreams did happen, though I'm not sure which one came from those nights. I have lots.

Eating strange food just before going to bed seems to work, but I'm not going to experiment.

Besides, wouldn't it be kind of strange that I'm reading this topic at 2am?

Have you ever had a dream where your getting hit with something (e.g being punched, kicked, stabbed etc) and actually moved to try and block teh blow, or moved because of the pain that isnt actually there?

You can find me in the masturbation thread. At least that one is somewhat more interesting

Eh my dreams are mostly the ones where i imagine certain parts of some kind of day, like conversations, embarrassing moments...And at some point, like a day, a week, a month (most of the times it happens months after the dream) i end up in situations in which i do what i did in the dream and at the middle point i do the weirdest things and movements to break that dream, and remind myself that i can change what happens. Sometimes it works and saves my a-hole from the worst sh**.

Heh, I remember experiencing something similar in my dreams, but certainly not as creepy as what you had (an entire chain of dreams before really awaking to reality). I had these kinds of "realistic dreams" a long time ago but without chaining up, they were extremely convincing, but there's always something wrong with them.

Once, I had a very short dream that this girl I liked was my friend and even kissed me, then I woke up. It was really sweet and felt pretty real, but I was very sure it's just a dream even in the middle of it, because we were actually enemies.

Then another, I dreamt that I had bird flu or SARS - I never felt any discomfort, everyone seemed so happy(including myself) and I realized the arrangement in my room etc were slightly jumbled up, so as convincing as it was, I knew it was just a dream, but I just played along anyway.
