King of the Voland
« on: April 05, 2009, 04:09:55 pm »
Witness= Sir Jeremy

Today, I played sna.gather. The map was ctf_Voland. I used Barrett for fun/my best gun.

So as the game started, Jeremy joined and watched us playing.

I scope killed 80% Midair 15% and Epic Blind shot 5%. Jeremy thought I was aimbotting.

Then after getting tired of using Barrett, I decided to use Ak-74, my second favorite. I was decent with it.

The final score? 9-6, we won. I was third, because... Well.. I capped only twice. But it was my first best moment in sna.gather. :)

Hopefully I'll have this kind of good moment in sna again.

Yes, know things like this, when you suddenly pwn that hard that you own everybody ;D I play most DE, M79 and Barret, much place to pwn (since DE have BIG potential) :)

I had in one match on ash with m79 4 caps, 49 normal kills and 2 deaths, it was so epic, that they first wanted to kick me from server till admin complained I didnt hack ;D

No, that was public owning I did. It is funny to come somewhere after half of the match and simply pwn them away so they whine all along ;D

No, with my clan it wouldnt be so easy, we consist in pros ;)

sna.gathers are mostly pretty damn good players. You should play with them also.

I only paid my virginity to learn how to use m79 from you. I'm not your official student. :P

Nice avatar, Fujifabric!

I think that if you took the best players from each gather and put them against one another it'd come out pretty even, but soldat.gather probably does have a higher number of skilled players owing to the size of their community compared to sna.gather.

Um... Can someone explain to me what gathers are and what the differences between each of them are?
All I know is that it's when a group of people meet via and IRC channel and play Soldat without leaving, so they aren't exactly better then public players, they just sit on their asses for longer.
Anyone play KOL?

Most pros play on gathers, and there are mostly no noobs if you play Soldat with IRC, because you can join the servers ONLY by the gather!

DragonSlayer wrote a pretty detailed topic about gathers some time ago. Basically, a gather is an IRC channel where a bunch of players (usually six at a time) add to a bot that organizes them into random teams and provides a private server on which to play. The gamemode is almost always CTF (though a few gathers do provide other options as well), and the winner is usually determined from the best of three maps.

As for the differences between the various gathers, it's mainly geographic, but it also involves game style. For example, the top four gathers at the moment are the following:

#aus.gather - Australasian Normal CTF
#sna.gather - North American Normal CTF
#soldat.gather - European Normal CTF
#soldat.realistic - European Realistic CTF

Generally you'll find the skill level of gathers to be much higher than what you'd see in a pub, and they are extremely popular within the competitive clan community (since gathers usually take the form of a traditional 3v3 style clan war). I suggest that every player eventually give gathers a try, as it's really a whole new game if one's only played in pubs, and it'll improve one's play a lot quicker.

My friend, you have loooong way to go to become a pro if you have not played on gather yet.

I played for two years, and yet I have a slim chance of winning. This month so far, I have two victories, one with random players, and one with rai-dei. I strongly recommend you to try sna.gather out, so you will stop thinking sna.gathers are for no lives'.

He's in australia.  Go along with all the guides on how to set up your IRC and all that, but instead of joining #sna.gather, join #aus.gather

You'll find the ping better, and you'll know quite a few people there.  Good luck :)

I find owning with a Barrett not impressive. If you get ten kills with one clip, and you were in a tight spot for a few of those kills, then maybe I'd be impressed.

Gotta find the demo, but then they had to change the ret in 1.4 :(

Rets are still lame. They may have only come far and few between, giving you plenty of spare time.

I dissaprove of Retting. But don't listen to me, ret all you want if you like it, ;D
