I read somewhere that WINE allows you to play the most popular online game, Soldat, on linux. Just wondering if this is true that Soldat is the most popular/best online game in your honest opinion...

To answer both of your unclear questions:

1) Soldat sorta kinda runs on Wine, but it really depends on your computer's hardware

2) Yes, in my personal honest complete opinion, Soldat is the best and most fun online game. Period

What about MMORPGs like WOW, Guild Wars, Lineage II and stuff like starcraft. Heck even new games like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online beat Soldat. But Soldat is aimed at a smaller audience, mainly those who don't speak English as a first language (like me) play it.

Soldat is awesome, because you can join any game at any time and meet your friends and blow yourselves up while you enjoy exciting matches.

Well, there are alot more games that are more popular than soldat, but the community is here much better.

And the gameplay is awesome.

It is one of the best multiplayer games. I still love my FPS games too, ranging from Doom to current. My favs are the militaristic games
in which I can camp and snipe. I just hope there will be a game coming out that features a Cheytac m200 rifle. Sniping at 3000 yard
would make my day literally.

As in terms of fast paced action however, Soldat is tops. Being an old oldschool gamer, I started out when 2d platformers were king.
Like many, I loved anything that had a gun in it. Soldat is that perfect mix of the retro 2d look, guns, modern physics, (which just adds
so much to the game) and multiplayer fun. Oh, and of course... /piss.

Forgot to add, it is definitely the physics as well. I have still yet to see a game where you can lob off someones head with a knife or jet up and splatter them all over a wall behind them with a close up m79 shot. Gravity and flying improve the experience by leaps and bounds. I mean I love FPS's, but in an FPS, you're pretty much limited to aiming your reticule and shooting. Anything that is not shooting usually looks wonky and awkward in the first person view, such as slashing with a knife in COD or using a sword in Halo. I can never get used to that. In those two games alone, if I use the knife or sword, I usually get disoriented and become immediately vulnerable, since I can't see where I am until a second later. In COD5, I absolutely hate it when the dogs attack you and you're trying to slash at them with the knife, then you can't see anything and they kill you anyway. Or the one time I snuck up on a sniper to slash him in the back to accidentally miss... when I finally saw where I was... he slashed and killed me.

I like to tell myself that I wouldn't play Soldat if I had high speed internet. However, I'm fairly sure I'd still beat up on some people with my super duper Soldatman. Of course, if I had high speed internet and XBOX Live, I'd be all CoD4-ing right now.

It's hard to really say that Soldat is the best online game out there. With minimal graphics, laggy and buggy gameplay, and not much of a bright future for the game, I don't think anyone can really say that Soldat is the best or will be the best online shooter at any point. Yes, it's fun and stuff, but games like CoD4, TF2, Halo 3, and RSV2 have better gameplay, better graphics, and better futures.

CSS & COD4 are my favourites although I play soldat on THIS computer because I have wireless internet and because it's not so good.

I consider it to be one of the best multiplayer-online shooter games, because unlike most games nowadays which rely on advanced graphics and complex coding etc, Soldat maintains simplicity. Yet despite being so simple, it has substance and it is fun. Soldat is a free game so we can play as long as we have downloaded it, but we can choose to register to support the creator MM, in return for extra benefits.

The community also encourages me to stay as a loyal player. We actually have a say in things, whether in suggestions or in weapon balance (though of course, the final decision is still made by the beta testers and creator).

You don't need super Internet for Halo 3. My old 256kilobit per sec (nor kilobyte) which downloaded at 26kilobytes per second had many green connections in Halo. Soldat was bliss though with some 27-47 ping servers.

It's ONE of the best. What i love in Soldat is the uncomplicated action, it runs on any computer, you can mod it easily how you like it and it shows that a great game doesn't need kickass graphics. The gameplay counts and Soldat delivers.

I don't think Soldat is the best online game, but it's probably the best for such a simple concept. The reason this game keeps me going is because there are none others like it, and its very basic and doesn't require an extreme gamer to play. I would say this is one of the best online platform games around.

it certaintly isnt the best online game with the likes of cod4 css tf2 l4d etc... around
but everyone in the community are very dedicated to improving it soo it makes soldat a great game
