Soldat is going down?
« on: April 26, 2009, 12:40:46 pm »
Well, to me it seems it does go down because every new version that comes out is even worse and more bugged than the previous ones. So... Is the reason lack of programming skills or the variety of functions added to Soldat (such as ActionSnap, BattlEye, Teamspeak, etc...)?

In older versions we HAD bugs but they weren't that annoying. But in 1.5 it's insane... You get kicked by BattlEye for some lame reasons, map errors, eats and you get Access Violations because Player names are too long (?) etc... This list can go very long.

What if we stop suggesting even more adds so there will be less bugs.

I am disappointed... Soldat used to be better in the past.

I kind of agree with this, I think there should just be a strictly bug fix version where nothing new is added and its main focus is to fix the bugs that are already there instead of adding new features with potential to add even more.
And as the lyrics go in the United State's national anthem: "America, f**k YEAH!".

soldat works well
well, we all have problems
problems and bugs exist, but don't worry
worry only if MM or e quit
quit your pessismism over the new version of soldat
Can't think of anything original to put here...

I don't even understand why because in each version I cannot manage to aim with barrett, even when the weaponmode had no change. i have to learn it again for more than 2 weeks to get the flow back... it's the most annoying thing the updates have.

It isn't that MM lacks programming skills, it's that when he started writing Soldat he was 16 and afaik wasn't entirely good at writing organized and maintainable code. As Soldat got larger and larger the code become more tangled and even more harder to deal with, and as of right now, it's so stringy that tracking down and fixing bugs is a real pain in the ass. And plus, MM doesn't have time to do it any more so EnEsCe is, and he's got a real life to deal with.

Be patient, eventually Soldat will be bug free.

It won't.

The more code you get the more bugs you have. It's a simple rule.

But just the fact that you have problems with 1.5.0 doesn't say that it's a soldat bug (or a battle eye bug).
I don't have an access violation problem and I have the same soldat, so it has to do with your hardware/settings/other programs installed on your computer/something else. It would be nice if soldat gets fixed to be compatible with your situation though.

... Go play some bug-free game then, you whiners. Oh right... There's basically no bug-free games with the same charm and fun gameplay as Soldat. Get over it...

So we have to play the greatest game eva but we have to shut the hell up because it's filled up with bugs.

Quality compensates bugs? :S

martty is right.
1.4 was as bad as 1.5, plus the bullets looked like fruits.
Although, I thought that the purpose of the public beta was to avoid this :S

These guys are right.

No doubt, there will always be bugs in any game, and Soldat is no exception, especially when there are lots of new codes as well.

I'd like to see the weapons be constantly updated and with better discussion. I find that there isn't enough communication between beta testers and the general public ; most of the discussion is just between the general public and with very few responses from the beta testers, even though they are understandably busier.

I think that soldat is fine for now, and we should respect the developers for what they're doing. They're trying to keep it stable, balanced and adding in new stuff to keep it contemporary. If you really can't stand it, play singleplayer, it has less bugs, no hacks, no n00bs, and no community. Just settle down, ALL 1.0 version are buggy. They've always been. 1.5.1 will have less bugs and it'll be more stable. Just give them a break. Juggling soldat and life is a bit one-sided for programmers.

I love 1.5 it kicks arse.

yes... when the stable version gets released, at least we'll have that one for quite a while. In the long term Soldat probably would become open source so who knows where is soldat going to, i wont say down. However, i'd really like to keep seeing new things in soldat, for example when mice get controlled by the eye or something i hope that soldat implements this, so the game don't get stuck in the old times, even though fast paced multiplayer shooting games are always fun to play.

I think link dead will kill soldat. It's got a more powerful engine for a start. But that doesn't mean it's better. I think it will be though.

1.4 -> 1.4.1

Lies, 1.4.1 was only released because of gigantic bullets. No bugs were fixed.

And unfortunately the beta testers barely helped out at all, afaik. afaik enesce/mm got tired of waiting for their input and just released it.
