What's your opinion of the current minigun?

I like it. Don't change it.
I hate it. Don't change it.
It's too powerful - too much damage
It's too powerful - easily abused
It's too weak - not enough damage
It's too weak - clip size is too small
The startup time ruins an otherwise usable gun
It's too fast!

I've won a deathmatch using minigun.  Most of the other people on the server had barrets.

It's also a weapon that has a lot of potential; it's just that using it isn't as straightforward as other guns.  You have to work the target into a vulnerable position.

The minigun's greatest weakness is definitely the start-up time, especially when you have to make sharp turns and stuff.  A great way to fix it up enough was posted on the old forum: first firing the gun would have the full delay, but after you've fired, there's a short period of time where the gun is "warmed up;" during that moment, you would be able to resume firing without--or with less--delay.  Once the gun has "cooled down," though, you're stuck with the full start-up time again.

I have noticed the few times I've tried it out that after backflipping or rolling the gun resumes firing right away as long as you continued to hold down the fire button during the evasive action. I know I didn't know that till I tried it, and I think that's a nice surprise for the weapon.

I still hate minigunners. Makes me wish I could have team kill available just for them at times.  >:(

so do i, i use minigun too.

why do you guys keep assuming it's a good binking weapon just because it fires faster and the weapon arc is huge so the bullets are nicely rained down on a some what large area.

i can bink a barrett with a mp5 just as well, maybe even steyr sometimes. and when i use those guns i can kill a barret much easier too, i just have to aim more accurately than using a minigun. besides, the start up time really kills the minigun. i've tried a mod with minigun no start up time, and during that game i could fire in bursts, which is much more accurate. now with the half a second start up time it's killing the minigun's few strengths. if a weapon's only advantage is to firesvery fast, all the while with a very long reload, does not make the weapon very effective at all.

never mind, this is all useless, with other posts like "overpowered socom" around, no one takes serious throughts into posting anymore...it's all opinions, you have yours, i have mine, let's just keep it that way.

and i have gotten 78-6 in a ctf match with a socom.
one example is not enough.

Although it's not saying much, I've won public DMs with the minigun numerous times. How you move has a huge impact on the effectiveness of the gun; if you stay above the ground and move quickly, it's easy to get close to other players and hit them with a huge amount of bullets in the head - suprise is a vital element. The startup time can be partially absolved by holding the mouse down for a short time, so that it doesn't fire, releasing, holding, and so on, and holding fire when a target appears. You can also hold the mouse button down while it's reloading, so it fires as soon as it's full again.

Perhaps Hampering the range but increasing the damage? If you put less speed on teh bullets, it prevents surfing, and putting more damage on would make it more effective, people would use it as a WEAPON instead of a JETPACK.

what about bringing it to it's old clip size? 120 rounds of munitions? with that many rounds, one could easily provide covering fire, or a distraction enough to let their teamates cap a flag, Or, another suggestion, What about putting it in place of the stationairy gun and doubling the damage?

Or, if you dont like either of those, What about adding 20 to speed and changing nothing else? that would make it very effective in providing support fire, while making it more accurate, but it would increase the potential of surfing...

I never have thought of the minigun as a practical weapon.  Sure we can weild it that way, but most of the people I see using it only use it to bug people or mess around.  So we can either keep it as a joke around gun, or perhaps, make it close to that of a more effective gun, I guess.

I reckon is should be made more "normal", meaning less reload and startup. But of course slightly worse than the 1-9 selection. Good or bad?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind it becoming a regular stats gun; it'd be more usable.

yep, you guys complain way too much on forums, that's why MM overnerfed minigun......

wait till you guys cry when the next version come out and rugers has a 5 second reload, socoms has a 7 clip with almost no damage, while shotgun takes 4 shots to kill anyone, and nads are taken out, instead MM replaced in flash grenades.

i'm telling ya, one of these days people will post a topic called "overpowered fists, we need to fix it!!" because every single gun in the game is way too weak..

Why is it everyone whines about every other gun? the only gun that needs fixing is the M79...it dominates every bloody server I see. almost every second player has it, and in some case, everyone on one team has them. its just to painful to see how all this "weapon balance" has stuffed soldat up to being unplayable. I rarely play now because of the weaker weapons and watnot...stop whining about the guns that don't need fixing and start talking about the real problem weapons.
Bloody betatesters, they ruined this game...

i think it needs to be improved a little...it is def. kinda weak. Maybe speed up reload? or get rid of delay? or maybe power it up a little? i would def. like to use this gun if it wasnt such a niche gun
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

Improving it is better than adding completely new weapons.

If the startup time was removed, it just wouldn't be the minigun we all know and love...

Well I've been using the minigun lately and I have found that it is indeed slighltly underpowered.  I have in some cases finished 1st in CTF games with decent players in the server.  If the server were filled with good players though I doubt a minigunner would stand much of a chance.

In my opinion only some minor adjustments are needed to improve the minigun's effectiveness.  Maybe an increase in damage would do the trick.
