DM/TDM - Tiberium V1.1 (The Discovery)
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:17:31 pm »
hi guys, this is my 1st map i have created thruogh PolyWorks for Soldat.
I really like mapping for any games. Well.

This map was kinda studying for me how PolyWorks runs etc.
I need a bit more skill tho. Wanted to create a symmetric map at first as usually but this failed a lot!

Those Crystals symbolize Tiberium as you maybe know from the C&C Tiberium Universe. They hurt you!

I keep going in map making for Soldat, also again with Tiberium. Damn i like it. My next map (V2.x) will be a lot darker of course and i am going to test some new 3D Effects. Waypoints will be included as well.

Now the Infos about "Tiberium V1.0 V1.1" (The Discovery):

DM/TDM - Tiberium V1.0 V1.1 (The Discovery)

> Deathmatch
> TeamDeathmatch
> most items are dropped out of those crystals
> crystals hurt you
> no waypoints
> more a flight-map with lots of camouflage.
> my 1st soldat map
> V1.0 needed 12 hours of work (non-stop)

maybe im going to improve this map anytime later. Improved and im going on! have fun guys.

Ps: im sorry, havent created an account at TMS yet. you will recieve this file thruogh an attachment right here.
RAR-file, ~2MB

Yup and thx.
As i explained above. this is my 1st soldat map and i need to understand how PolyWorks works etc. This is more a test map for myself and 3 of my friends.

This was a training in creating a map for more into:
How does Tiberium look like in Soldat?!

Thank you for your (few) hints.. i will notice them of course.
And of course.. i watched all basic/regular maps many times thruogh PolyWorks.

Have a nice Day

EDIT: @smiluu

Sorry i need to say anything now!
I guess you just took a look onto my screenshot and havent read anything what i wrote. An example:

I wrote:

You wrote:
..."Not only that its a sacrilegious maze, theres also hiding spots everywhere"

Well, since I cant know how much knowledge in mapping your friends have I cannot say that it is a good 1st map, but a good map for start :) I will d/l it and take a look at it because I like your polyarting.

A few tips: Appreciate the layout, not the looks. The look comes after you did a good playable layout. Many hidingspots cause big trouble in deathmatch because of camping, so try on your next map to do less of them. And dont forget to use some darker colours for shading your map and lighter colors for the lightend parts of your map, it looks better and more realistic.

Keep the good work on man ;)

Attatchment is now: TiberiumV1.1_TheDiscovery.rar

This is a real looking-like Tiberium Crystal (C&C 1995) within its pod. the Tiberium Crystal and its pod are risen, the roots are roots under earth. I havent worked there on some 3D Effects yet. Will reach ya in V1.2 maybe.

Btw: i really enjoy to create maps for Soldat. i guess, i found a new hobby.

f**k THE CAMOUFLAGE

I'll give it a run-through.  Looks like the crystals would make me want to stab myself though.  "Flying-esque" maps aren't really a good idea.  Doesn't give the same tactical ability as running on the ground and doing back-flips n shizzy.  Dodging bullets whilst humdumming in-air is.. slow and usually impossible.

Oh yea, and with TMS, I have an account but rarely use it.  Unless you are on multiple forums, it really isn't all that necessary.

Edit:

Yup. It's gianormous (gigantic+enormous).  Also, the "hiding spots" are aggravating.  I'll give you street creds for the crystals though.  I don't like them, but I'm sure some people... might.  The whole map looks nice, but everything else= :'(

Aesthetics:  7/10
Layout:  2/10

Better luck with your next map.

yup.
this map shouldn't train me into the layouts, it is more into colors, shaders, train with polygons, items (dropping), scenery, opacity, maybe waypoints, lights. At least everything else except the layouts. And especially with the Tiberium-Layout!! Notice this map's name: "The Discovery". So this map may be confusing you, errrrm the Soldats.
 ::)

I gonna create a nice layout in V2.x and tiberium will be there as well, just smaller. Imagine Tiberium as traps as you may know them on regular maps for example. I needed to train with bigger grid up to now and to see how tiberium looks like in Soldat, this is why they are that big ingame. But now I can handle with smaller grid. So smaller Tiberium. I learned many new Tools in PolyWorks and how to use them. I've learned a lot in just 2 days.

Aesthetics:  7/10

Thank you.

At least, this map was devised for my private usage only. I liked the colors and the tiberium, this is why i posted this map here. I didnt think about a layout, just those things i mentioned above.

Alright, I keep V1.1 to the public and you may improve Tiberium V1.x if you can! But please: This Tiberium idea is mine for now. I gonna start V2.x very soon. New map, new name. Not anything like: theDiscovery.

Any more questions?
 ;D

Thx for your thuoghts and for your advising.

I'm thinking those "green thingys"/"cristals" were meant to be big fan leaves almost like a palm tree -_-....

Updates do suit the map style. I like this map how you can actually hide somewhere...would be great for hide and seek lolz!
