Hiding behind pillars
« on: May 22, 2009, 10:24:55 pm »
Hey everyone. I've been playing Soldat online for about a week and just wanted to share a moment that I found funny, probably not for all of the "pros" out there :D

It's deathmatch with about 4 or 5 human opponents and I've chosen the beretta since I love the one hit kills. While everyone is shooting each other, I spawn and hide behind a pillar, making myself completely invisible, except for my barrel. Apon spawn or just flying into the air - pow I take em out.

It sounds lame but I'm happy with it :)

I'm sorry for being an ass, but it's Barrett, not Beretta.....

Also, were you first after the round?

AussieJay, try not to camp (hiding and taking down enemies is considered camping) because else you will soon count as a lame guy who does not know how to play the game properly. Also note that the Barrett is not a camper-weapon (that's how many snipers try to justify their camping) but it is also very effective while moving and actually attacking.

Your aim will be only accurate while moving if you dont press any keys other than the on your mouse

Well, he said he's only been playing online for a week. And when we played a while ago I owned him (about 22-2 in an INF game, he was last) without trying. ME. A PUBLIC ONLY PLAYER. Anyway, camping with a baz, until you've mastered the knife or pistol, will never get you first.
Anyone play KOL?

It is true, if you add the previous online playing. I played for about half an hour then quitted for months. Now I'm back.

It's good to hear feedback, since I'm sorta new to the game.

Also, were you first after the round?
Of course not :)

I hope I don't seem that way but I can justify myself. Every now and then, mainly in the smaller maps, I switch to the AUG and go close range.

However, I'm still a camper and I'll keep doing it ;) until I practice more with closer combat, or moving with Barett, I'll stick with what I'm, *cough*, good at :-[  :P

Final note... if you see me in a game, say hi :D

Then I probably should say this was just as simple fun instead of owning people?

Yes, pretty much. I'm trying to find something that works, trying to find my "style" whether it be camping or going right into it.

Camping's a pretty effective strategy sometimes if you do it right..
Say in CTF, hide behind a pillar and go into their base when they run past :)
Make sure you don't kill them or they'll be angry waiting for you at their base

Yeah, sure a pro...owning a new player with a barret while camping...the skillz. Anywhooooo what secondary weapon did you use? I'm assuming the pistol for its general usefulness. And it can beat a lot of people (in pubs) if you use a grenade. ONE GRENADE. So many people fail by nade spamming...

By the way, pick up primaries from dead men, seems to be useful ;P

Depends, the secondaries are one-shot kill weapons which are really useful. And the LAW's even better now that you CAN ACTUALLY RELOAD IT, maybe even better than the short range M79. sometimes. And the pistol is good if you like the high damage per bullet and don't like the curve of the Desert Eagles or the slow ruger. Oh, 2 barrets is nice for camping if you're confident in your aim while binked.

1.It's called SOCOM not pistol.

2.The reload time of the LAW is a fair trade off for it's versatility and the fact that it's a secondary.

3.The SOCOM has low damage, and it's WORSE than the Deagles.

4.Camping is ok and fine by me, when used as a survival strategy, or simply to hold off some guys till the cap, or trying to get the EFC. But excessive camping is just cowardly and weak. Excessive being simply for the kills, at all times, and for long periods of time.

I learnt that from a sniper who picked up an extra Barett from a dead player. It's smart, and I'm learning to do the same. However I'm now in love with the good ol knife, with it's one-hit kill most of the time. It has it's flaws as all weapons have.

Exactly what I've been finding out. I prefer to hide at thier base, wait for them to respawn and run off, then take my prize. It doesn't always work though  ::)

Yeah the thing is to usually pick up a reliable primary, preferably AUG or something.  The Aug is more than capable of taking out one opponent which is usually your priority if you want to live to reload your barrett.  The idea is so that you're never stuck during a reload or a failed 1 shot attempt, cause that will definitely kill you while an auto could still save your butt if you get a nade in ;P

We think alike. Too many times am I reloading while an opponent sees me and takes a shot. Good ol knives are cool too, but when I lose it, I usually loose it for good!

Train it better, and train your climbing\dodging skills.
So basically go on dodgeball servers and knife only-s. Climbs are obvious.

The best way to learn to play is playing the game itself. You don't learn proper moving in fappy climb maps nor knife throwing & dodging in a dodgeball server. Real situations, real skillllz!
