Turkey
« on: August 06, 2006, 04:37:57 am »
I finally had some free time to spend setting up and taking pictures with my camera today.  I've had the camera for almost a year and this is the first time.  I'm just starting to go over the pictures from today, but here is the first thing that is decent.  There's only one thing about the pic that I dislike.

That creature is unbelievably ugly Ô_o

I like the hole setup of the picture, though. I'm getting a camera myself.

The main issues with the picture:

1) turkeys don't cooperate.  I wish it was facing the other way, into the sun.  At the same time, it still looks kinda cool how it is now.
2) I wish those cars weren't in the picture
3) the turkey's face is darker than the background, so increasing the brightness on the whole picture actually makes it worse.  What I need to do is create a mask over just the turkey's face and tweak the brightness there, that way I can make the turkey brigher without making the background even brighter as well.  I will also then increase the contrast a bit on the turkey's face to keep it from looking washed out from the brightness, and also increase the red level just a tad

Woah, I hadn't even seen the cars.
I agree with you on lightening up the "face" of the turkey, but I noticed the dark shadowy spot generated by it's wing(or whatever) on the back. I think you should leave that there.. Just in case you were thinking on brightening it as well.

That's gotta be the ugliest animal, right next to toads. Toads and turkeys are so fucking ugly, i wish they didn't exist.

the camera is a Canon EOS 20D.   I was using the 18-55mm kit lens and didn't bring any others with me, because I knew that if I started changing lenses out there I'd get dust on the image sensor (in between the lens and image sensor) since it was hot, breezy, and dusty out there.

It's a nice picture... it's just that turkeys are morbidly disgustingly ugly.

I know, I just don't have the skill to remove the cars from the picture... doing that with a tree background is rather difficult.

Somehow the "after" picture looks alot brighter and seems to be better quality. I might just be tricking myself out of utter exhaustion... Goodnight fellow forumers.

This is more or less what I did in the "After" picture.  I basically tweaked the brightness/contrast of the turkey and background separately until it looked better
