Mixing Realistic and normal mode
« on: August 06, 2006, 05:19:04 am »
I love R/S, but sometimes I don't appreciate ALL the features it offers (especially in LAN games, where we just like to play Realistic because of the restricted vision). I would love to be able to turn on and off specific features of Realistic, like this:

Clearly, when you check the "Realistic Mode" button, it would select EVERYTHING that it always has, and is not any more difficult than before. Is there something I'm missing, or is this something Soldat simply has been without for too long? Would you use it?

I like the flexibility.  but when I search for realistic games, its a simple yes/no now

how would the searh results be laid out if this wer to be used such that it won't be too complicated?

I would think the easiest way to handle this is to let the server specify which mode it is recognized as.

I can tell this would be fine to the common soldat, but to us realistic only players, it would be a real pain. We would find ourselves in a world of constant change, since one server would be without reciol, and another without restricted vision.. It's a "thought through" idea, but I have to vote no.
I'm a realistic gamer, take my wort for it.
No.

I vote yes, but I don't think it should have all those features, maybe only fall damage because otherwise it's basically not realistic :/

i vote completly for, but agree with Krillious.  Also there should be a function for removing jets as well as decreasing the vertical jump distance, maybe horizontal too.

Of course another option is to have servers only be recognized as Realisic if they are truly, fully Realistic, otherwise they come up as either normal or "Mixed"

I also support gravity increase options, but that's another topic altogether

Best idea I've ever seen.

I like playing in realistic mode, but always, one thing bothers me- which is restricted vision. I can't see enemys. (I play with bots usually).
Damn noobs, this avvy is done by me!

Ight here's the thing:
It is a great idea and all and i voted for it - but there needs to be a better organized game lobby list - i mean like a very thin column for each of these features.  A R S V F D C  -  advance, realistic, survival, vision restricted, fall damage, realistic damage, recoil.  If we had these 7 columns real thin at the very beginning of the lobby it would make finding a good server easier.  And also it should have either a checkmark or an X instead of YES or NO to indicate each column.
Can't think of anything original to put here...

we would have to constantly adjust to each server's different aspects, when you enter, you really don't know what is going to happen, you have to test your falls, and see if damage is normal and see if you have recoil. Most people like to take two or more good things and combine them to make one really good thing, this is taking a really good thing and spliting it apart into moderatly ok things.

I would think a simple "server rules" box, viewable at any time during play or before you enter the server shouldn't be hard to do. I realize MM isn't in the business of making a super-streamlined UI, but this shouldn't be difficult. Certainly better than the FF functions in most online games i know of: "IS FF ON?!" This is obviously a digression from my original motion, though.

Yeahhhh, no thanks.  I don't think we need all these variation servers floating around; with hybrid realistic mode and the like.  I like plain 'ol realistic mode.  No more, no less.

No.

I'm with echo on this. You'd be in a server and habit would take over. It would just be way too confusing.

i'm 110 % with you, man should be able to make own server more advance, like:
Fall-Damage: check
Real-Shot-Feel: check
...etc...

By golly i've got it! just like {wm} in the server name is for weapons mod, {rr} will stand for restricted realistic

it might be a bit annoying that it doesnt say how realistic it is, what aspects of realistic mode are included but neither do moddedservers and no one complains about that. then we can keep the good old "yes" and "no" under the realistic column and keep things simple.

edit: simple to search for servers, i mean

This is too much; we don't need to have all these detailed options  ::)  It is realistic mode (singular) after all.
