Chainsaw is useless

This seems to me so obvious that it really doesnt need an explanation.

Its suppose to be best in close quarters but its impossible to get up close. Every time your hit with a bullet it slows you down if not completely halts you.

Ive tried it many times on cq maps like Ash with little success. The knife is 3/4 as good as the chainsaw upclose but you can always throw it even if your being blown back by bullets.

Even if he runs outa bullets up close, once you charge him you fly right into his grenades, and you can never be sure if he has them unless you've seen him throwing all.

I think the least thing the devs could do is remove the reload time.

But ideally I think they should not only remove the reload time but make the chainsaw an instant kill touching anywhere on the body. It seems to only instant kill half the time (maybe because of head "shots"), many times I hit the player but only injure him, continue to charge him only to get shot down.

ya the only time its useless is inrealistic mode where you die to auto weapons very fast, other then that, the chainsaw is one of my favorite weapons to use

The chainsaw can be a very effective weapon, especially on big servers. On u13 Big CTF, I often get more kills with the chainsaw than other people do with any other weapons. Sad, but true.

I do agree, however, that it should be a one hit kill weapon. It gets very frustrating when you run through 2-3 people and none of them die.

Killing a bunch of noobs on a pub is hardly the place to prove its worthiness.

Try vs me (or any pro) on a small map like Ash and I can guarantee you wouldnt be able to kill me once with it. I could even give you a sporting chance by not using any grenades, even then you still wouldnt nab a single chainsaw kill.

Im not bragging, but if my point actually needs to be put to the test.

It must be done as an Insta-kill weapon. Because of all secondaries, it is least useful and therefore least used. It might also have a longer reach since this one may seem a bit short.
And I am not talking about screwing around on public servers and shredding Majors or playing in realistic mode since that mode needs erm.. some balance, but serious matches, ei FCWs?

Try using the chainsaw on ctf_kampf, especially in alpha base.  You might be surprised at how many people start whining.  Like many weapons, it requires tactical use.  It's not supposed to stand up against guns in 1 vs 1 combat; if it were, wars would be fought with chainsaws.  That's why it's a SECONDARY weapon.  It's good if you know how to use it, but if you aren't skilled with it, don't complain about it.

Yhe problem is ( if you get it ) that saw is actuall a 'fun' weapon. You'll take it if want to show off or to just gave some fun, but! It's not the weapon that you would pick up if you really want to win? eh?
If it is improved that would be a perfect close combat weapon (compare: knife - close-mid, soccom -mid, LAW - far-mid) So, you fly over a guy, quickly switch to saw and shred them to hell. Yes, that is possible even now, without modifications, but to do this you have to either lpay vs majors or be a freaking saw maniac.

Chainsaw needs no improvement.  Knowing when and where to use it is the key.  I used it a few times just today to take down a few people in a rather high pace ctf match, and it couldn't have felt smoother imo.

You say it like its a bad thing. Just trying to make Soldat an even better game.

Chainsaw is a fun weapon for pubs. If you nabbed any kills with it the players you killed where either not trying or they just sucked.

Believe me, I know how to use the chainsaw, when and where. But those circumstances are so few and far between you'd be better off with a boomerang.

well, the thing is imo that chainsaw's weaker than other secondaries, not that you can't kill with chainsaw, and it's easier to balance 4 secs that 10 prims

how really could you improve saw besides making it one hit kill...unless you are planning a throwable saw(which would be just like the knife). It is a weapon that is harder to use and that is what makes it fun.

The chainsaw is at most effective when the enemy isn't aware or prepared for dealing with a chainsawer. If someone sees you rushing in with a chainsaw they'll evade your attack with usually little effort. No one expects a chainsaw to be used in close quarters thus they don't prepare for it, not even clan players.

Anyhoo... In the experimantal balance the range has been increased by 10% and effectively the chain's spin speed is doubled.

first when bullets r flying at u. u do whats called a superman u jump, go prone, and the fire button and the jet button.
Second the chainsaw is a instant kill weapon.
every single time i do the "superman" i almost always get an instant kill
the reason y u dont get an instant kill is because of the lagg.

I can only assume people have gotten to like the saw because its fun to kill noobies on pubs. This is the only possible reasoning I can come up with or I just lack the charismatic tact to convey my opinion so people naturally vote against me.

Its plain common sense the chainsaw isnt balanced in comparison to the other secondaries.

Really, I think Ive spent enough time defending what shouldnt even need to be defended so I'll just fade off untill I can think of something else to complain about

The chainsaw is a secondary weapon. It is there if your primary fails. Don't run around with a chainsaw and people won't camp and spray you to death on your approach. It does need to be instant kill though.
