Official Need For Speed: Shift Thread
« on: June 03, 2009, 02:50:59 am »

These videos on youtube, interviews with drivers, who helped refine the production - it's impressive, but it's weak for followers driving light, easy and pleasant, who would like the to take over the territory of the other four-wheel gang. This game is so hard, because this time we have to deal with the title, which it will fight with Race Driver: GRID, Gran Turismo 5 or Forza Motorsport 3. The question is: For Who is this new Need For Speed?

After a long playing on the new NFS, there is only one answer - ONLY for professionals, because that game is able to give such a fun for hardcore gamers, but even people With an average skill can feel here like a total newbies. The fact is that only until they enter online and will take on the better, but the brutal reality of network does not change the fact that the driving engine is extremely flexible and it draws both when we play on the steering wheel, joystick or just the keyboard.

Before you start the game for good, we need to pass a test lap on which it is proposed difficulty settings to us: active helpers, rival AI, damage model, ABS. However, the practice looks different. Because what that damage might not have any effect on the behavior of the car, and opponents will be so easier to overcome, if you turn all these traction control and other ABS-es would we lose the pleasure of driving?

If in addition we have only a keyboard and mouse, we are at the last position. And not for the fact that we do not have a chance to win - with weak opponents and all helpers, we not even need to press the brake (which is automatic). Just keep gas, and 1st place should be ours! But what of it, since it does not give any satisfaction?

Is a little better when we play on a joystick. Yes, you may be tempted to exclude helpers, but most of the pads is so imprecise, that after leaving the most vulnerable groups (in total there are 5) the massacre beggins. Speed become large enough that the lack of pad precision falls is a very serious problem! and the inclusion of helpers ends just like playing the keyboard - dissatisfaction.

The situation changes when we will set the steering wheel. NFS shift then becomes a completely different game! And in the most positive sense - suddenly, it appears that brings great satisfaction! After two days of torture, I could just tear my hair that i am not started right from the steering wheel, because not long since I played so well on this racing game!

But the game on the steering wheel is also quite demanding, but if we start from beginning, we will have enough time to assimilate the characteristics of an ever more powerful cars (there are 67) and more of the game tracks (50 tracks in 18 locations).

Without the latter, do not bypass the rather, unless we choose the lowest AI skills, but by running on the track driving line (marked in red is the moment when you must brake) you should have no problems doing so.

Talking about driving engine is over, time to say few words for the career.

It begins with the purchase of your first car, then you can customize it both visually and internally, buy more parts and change the settings. The latter is done in two modes: simple, with helpful info and advanced - better don't approach to this in beginning, unless you have to deal with realistic simulation.

Earn cash for a place on the podium (for example, $ 46,000 for first place, 23,000 $ for tenth), but also during the race we are rewarded for behavior on the track, and how: stars and points. The former receive for taking place on the podium and perform special tasks, which usually gain enough points, but there are bonuses for drifting. Stars are needed to advance to a higher group, but we can freely choose other events. Thus there is no pressure on the first place - we have at least a few more events.

The points are awarded in two categories: precision (optimal ride and culture on the track) and aggression (on the contrary, the idea is to push the opponents). With enough points we are promoted to higher levels, which gives access to more space in the garage and more additional events.

The problem with such a division is, however, when you will try to drive aggresively and you setted AI sensibly, you will end as a precise driver. At least until reaching drifts, because for drifting you get aggresion points. Fortunately for promotion points in both categories are added together, and "sites" you can easily change, because the choice of one of them means that they will be offered to us other events. But the proposals do not need to use ... you can manually select what you want.

Overall

Does NFS Shift revive NFS series? Well, I fear that this will be hard. If we have the same driving engine, newbies should resignate, because what is currently in the game, it is either difficult or do not make fun. And in this case, neither the great graphics, neither a large number of cars and tracks, or a group of happy fans of more realistic race games may not be sufficient to return of Need For Speed to best game series ever. I will not hide that, if someone has some skills and the steering wheel, NFS Shift is extremely playable.

+ Great driving engine
+ Epic graphics
+ Lots of everything

What? Give a reason at least jackass.

Need for Speed was always in the rist of success or failure, because of its series.

I'm not sure if this one will be nice.

Need For Speed...fails.
Just because they fucked up last time (NfS: Undercover) it doesn't mean the whole series sucks. Underground 2 and Most Wanted were probably the best. I think I even got the first NfS somewhere on a CD.

NFS sucks balls. This one is supposed to be radically different than the shit EA has churned out for the past 8 years. They lengthened their dev cycle (put some fucking effort in it this time) and should be better than the atrocious stuff they have released.

Stick to Gran Turismo. Its a better racing game.

Also blur effects can go fuck themselves. Nothing looks less realistic than when your vision goes to shit just because you're going fast.  My eyes almost bleed lapping the Nürburgring in GT4.

It's not NFS anymore. Just your average racing game :(
It still looks good but I don't want a vanilla racing game.

Either Underground or Underground 2 wass teeeeh awesome. I wasn't overly happy with Undercover...

It's the best racing series out. I don't mind if you call something like GT or v8 super cars crap! Essecially V8. Horrible game!

But NFS actually has depth in it. I haven't played Shift yet....

I never been really into racing games, but I thought I should give this one a go. I think it's great. A step up from previous recent titles in the series.

I have always been bored to tears by racing games. The concept does not intrigue me at all; I have to drive already I don't want to any more.

If you really like the racing sport stick with Gran Turismo and this realistic racing simulation stuff. If you just want to have fun with speeding on a highway and crashing your way through cars and more get Flatout or NFS: Most Wanted or Underground 2. I had a great time with those games, GT just doesn´t attract me at all :|
