Dark Castle - Waiting Room [ready version 1.5]

Dark Castle - first ready version for the mapping contest

This is mostly the final version of Dark Castle, a map that I worked on for about 5 to 7 hours on and it was a really new experience for me to work only with the default textures and scenery, I had to improve my skills at polyarting and making everything look good without custom scenery ;D Just some examples: I didnt use any fading scenery, there are polygons with an opacity of 0 to an opacity of 100; The mountains behind the whole map are the old default lights with a low opacity, the gargoyle in the middle of the map consists of about 280 polygons and the throne uses about 85. I guess the ambience is dark and maybe a bit desperated since you see your foes but canĀ“t get them :) If you follow the beams you come to a little chapel where you may pray to get much prey in the next match or simply fall off the edge to die a terrible death caused by deadly polygons, you may decide as you like ;D

Half of the map is barely visible ;/
Try lightening it up a bit

If the map is too dark use a higher gamma that you can change in your Soldatoptions

Not all maps need to be so light, the dark makes the red and blue stripes glow more
It is possible I would prefer a lighter waitingroom though, well have to wait and see :p

It is possible I would prefer a lighter waitingroom though, well have to wait and see :p

Well when waiting for a big match like a league game or a gather to begin you want your eyes to be in good condition for not leaving the screen for about 10 mins, so I think blinding them in such dark colors doesn't really help with that aspect, does it?

Dark colors are better for your eyes, your pupils will increase their size and in the next match you will see more if you want to stay with that aspect ;D

homer is right, the dark colors are mainly for letting the bridge glow more and they fit the theme better than lighter colors since it is Dark Castle and not Funnytown :P

They're not good when you're in:
A) A dark room....
B) Playing at night, with no lights on.

But what is this for, zombie map?

wait room. a map that loads after a match has ended, where the players can chill out a bit and think what are they doing next.

Was intended to be funny since there are so many hours you dont have to play in a dark room except your pcs location is in your cellar ...

Was intended to be funny since there are so many hours you dont have to play in a dark room except your pcs location is in your cellar ...

For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

It's up to server admins, nothing really denies it. #soldat.match servers use lobby map and they were pretty a lot used in sctfl games.

Map looks pretty. Waiting to get home so I can test it.
