Addition to the ping limit-system.
« on: June 06, 2009, 01:53:25 pm »
Hello,

I always get annoyed when a player with average ping of ~1000 joins server. Even if he soon gets kicked by exceeding the ping limit, he manages to lag the server and it ain't fun.

So, I suggest that there should be a new feature in the current ping limit system. This is used in many other internet games such as ET and so on...
If the server recoqnizes that a player tries to join with huge ping, it will block him that he wont be able to join unless he manages to drop his ping. Then there should be a message shown to the player like "This server is for low pings only" (which is very usual info-message) or something like that.

And if the server owner allows him to join with high ping?
Well if this will be inplented to soldat there should be a on/off switch in it.

Well, that kind of feature would be nice too.
He also could rise the ping limit from soldat.ini

A player with high ping can't lag a game server. That's a common myth. Now, 10 players that use minigun at the same moment CAN lag a soldat server  ;D

Well, on my "uber-pro" computer I've almost never experienced FPS drop.
@topic I think it's a good idea.

Despite what Leo said I think this is a good idea because it saves everyone's time; they are going to get kicked in 30 seconds anyway.

It would be a massive waste of servers resources to be doing such checks on every request game. It's bloated enough as it is with massive banned lists and admin lists. Not worth it, simply firewall foreign countries from your server if its that much of a problem.

I reckon, if it's ping is too high, it should give like a warning that you are highly over the ping limit...or something like that or restrict them from joining because of their lag.

I agree it would be nice if people with high ping never had the chance to join in the first place, but I guess it's not worth it since enesce said it.
