Is this map looking good?
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:01:10 pm »
Criticize it, I'd like to make some maps now. I've made this map using hexagon octagon structures, of 8 polygons each, instead of the classical reversed triangles, and it was amazingly easy to build the map up.

And I know the lower part doesn't flows too well, I'll fix that tomorrow when I have some time.

EDIT: Added where the flag and spawns are supposed to be, but not necessarily means that they can't change its position.

It reminds me a bit like Laos, left side is short, easy to defend and lower then the right side wich has a big area back there.
I think I would want to be on the right side, but much will depend on how you do the middle part I guess, and where you put the spawn points/flags.
You can certainly see it's build up with a octanish structure.
Don't know what more to say about it, not bad :P

octagon looks good, but critical regions should be more straight
I think that bases should be more linear
you used 3 collors right now... try to make different shadows
will you make some islands in the middle?

That's the basic paint, then I'll add more shadows, of course. This is just an sketch.
Nope, maybe just 2 islands in the lower part to offer cover, but that's all. I plan leaving the players with not many jets, so there will not be fights in the air or either snipers spraying around. Also I'll make the bases more covered to avoid spray. Give me some suggestions, and I'll work in the map tomorrow.

UPDATE:

I'll probably have to make the map a bit bigger... I think it's too small now.

Antispray is useless as you can reach the enemy base in less than 5 seconds if you boost well. If you pay attention, the ground is made in a way that you can go bunnyjumping and making huge jumps with ease with no need to jets at all, allowing a very fast moving along the map. Also the bases are very close. I'd expect people fighting in the middle all the time so there would be no need for any kind of collider.

Make a bridge along these two polygon islands in the middle. It would be nice though to see more islands in this huge open space in the middle either :) If you give me the PMS I´ll see what you could do ;)

the point of the map is to have a very fast gameplay, you can reach the enemy base in almost no time, as I said. Adding a bridge would make the gameplay slower, not many people would go by down, and also EFC's couldn't get to the low part to escape. No PMS will be given yet.

Add a bridge between the 2 masses of land hung in the air, and maybe 2 buildings on them?

Darkcrusade, you can spray the snipers from your own base. Also if you look carefully to the scale the map is made, you will find out that you can reach the enemy base in less than 5 seconds, and you can also go by low, so putting any kind of collider in the middle would slow the flow and the point of the map, when it's not needed at all.

I think real snipers exist only in tw...
anyway... there are a whole lot of open-to-all-sprays maps, so this one needs something special to be successful... mmm how about a giant robot in the middle? (damn i can't think about anything but giant robots today...) or some OWT boosters?

Well ... nice spawnsetting (all coming in at alpha base at the moment)? ;D

Next to the lack of polybugs try to use the lower route from bravo side. The end of the route is at the beginning of the alpha base and there you have a polygon like this / what slows players really down. Also try to see how flowy the low route is at all :)

Guess 3v3 would be too much for the map, though, it´s too small

I was guessing a 5on5 would show what this map could do... or at least the point of it, making a fast gameplay.

I still have to fix the lower part, and redo it a lot...

I guess you lost the concept of soldat, which is having a fast gameplay...

I like maps that I cannot take a break when I'm playing, I want maps that since I respawn until when I die, keep me shooting, moving, and being in the main focus of the action all time.

Small tweaks, polybug-free. Feel free to run across the map, you will see how easy and fast it is...
