www. prefix = 404 on links that lead to SF
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:06:34 pm »
As the name says, if you use a link which is having the www. prefix you will get a 404 error, while without it everything works fine.
Any ways to fix that?

Check it:

Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

Doctor, my head hurts.
Does it hurt all the time?
No, only when I hit it with a hammer.

Everything works fine.
"www." is not a prefix, it's a part of the name. Most sites work with two different names (e.g. "soldat.pl" and "www.soldat.pl") that lead to the same site. This site doesn't, it has only one name.

And besides, if you add www. you should get server name unresolved error, not 404.

that happens because forums.soldat.pl is just a SUB-domain, not a domain, so it can't contain www.

you could have:

maps.soldat.pl
demos.soldat.pl
files.soldat.pl

but not, ever, www.*something*.soldat.pl

Yeah, it can. For example my school's http://www.wphs.ocps.net/ . There can be sub domains ontop of sub domains too: http://static.forums.soldat.pl/

Adding www.forums.soldat.pl functionality is possible, but it's epicly useless since no one'd ever bother to append a www. to the beginning of the URL anyway.
