Discussion: Necroposting
« on: June 21, 2009, 08:40:31 am »
Everybody knows it. Okay, most guys know it :) It is very annoying, but what should an admin or a moderator do, if the forum had no new posts in 3 months and somebody posts in an old topic ;D Would you

A) Warn him for necroposting?
B) Love him for rescuing the forum from getting dead?
C) Buy him a sandwich?
D) Ignore the post and delete the forum?
E) f**k this topic for being not funny and unnecessary :)
F) F) I'd let it just be.
G) Warn him for necroposting and than buy him a sandwich.

Necropost-locks are annoying, if its a topic you will update later. (Maps 'n such)

F) I'd let it just be.

the three month rule isn't the end all of necroposting I would be pissed if this topic stayed on the first page for more than a day.

D) Ignore the post and delete the forum?
I highly doubt an admin would delete the whole forum because of a noob's post.

I'd just screw this thread up. And then suggest the admins to make something so the topics older then 2 months are automatically closed. There could be a "request opening" button, where if you REALLY need to revive the topic, you could click on it and then write why you want the thread to be opened again. This way is better.

This is not only a discussion about a silly thing. This can end in something that avoids necroposting in the future.

I hate it when you start a new topic which has already been discussed ages ago and you want to get fresh opinions so you type it up and you get linked to the old discussion and locked. This doesn't apply to the game improvements section.

I'd give them a pancake over a sammy.

Depends how the thread was necroposted.

If it was a comment like "lol, i agree" id gave him a warn, posssibly 2 if the post was really retarded.
If it was a constructive post id give him a cookie.
If it was a request (for mods/maps/scripts), id give him the link and give him a hint how to behave on a forum.

I'll trust the moderators' judgment on this matter, because it totally depends on how a thread is necroposted.

I enjoy some necroposting, I really like how you can see how you've changed.
