What's swallowing my RAM?
« on: August 08, 2006, 08:53:42 am »
Err..

That was taken with no applications running- however, I checked the processes and there are many things being done all the time on my computer, but i'm not too sure what to terminate.

Help?

Show us your processes (in taskmanager) sorted by memory usage. First item there is probably the cause :P

Wow, that's a lot... I couldn't get the window any bigger.

Litestep is important, and that's all i recognize.

how much do you have?

and every process other than any of the ones with your name (like mike curran here)

but dont get rid of taskmgr.exe because that is what you are using to do all this.

What's up with the memory leakage?

Any way to fix it? I hate opera. -_-

all of the firefox memory leaks were fixed in 1.5.0.x.  If you have anything before 1.5.0.6,  I suggest you upgrade.  www.getfirefox.com

30MB of RAM for a tabbed web browser isn't bad.  Go open a bunch if IE windows (the same number of windows as you have tabs in firefox) and add up how much RAM that uses.  Then you'll understand ;)

Remove svchost.exe, it's a worm/trojan. Also, if you find something like "explorer.exe", it's a trojan too.

I have about 6 of those on there, but when i remove them, they come back. Not only that, but it initiates a few shutdowns... 6 of them

Meh, i'll live with it. I might be getting new GFX cars + a new processor, so unless i decide that i want to play FEAR and Half Life 2 at the same time, i should be fine.

Litestep uses less resources than the default windows explorer.
