Normality not found?

So I decided to finally start up soldat and see if my connection got any better with this new crap I got in my new barracks. Apparently it runs fine, minimal lag. However my heart was troubled by the lack of normal ctf servers. I found one but it was based in another country and everyone was speaking a different language.  I tried DM, only to find one normal server with two horrible players. So am I missing the boats passing by? Where did all the good servers go? Does the community need someone to bite the bullet and put up a 12 man normal ctf server?(I'm will to do so if needed) Anyone explain what the hell happened to my lovely game?

It's been happening for a while. You can always try Fracs ctf pub (if that's still around), but if that's full or empty then you've gotta settle for some other gamemode.

They just haven't been popular these days compared to HnS, Zombies, etc in pubs. The more competitive side of soldat is still going strong though.

I feel your pain.

Thing is, there are a few non-realistic/survival/wm servers around. They're just always empty.

I think their popularity is what's missing, not the servers themselves.

Get some people from sf or a similar site on U13 or fracs.net servers.

Why don't the "elite competitive" players play a public game once in a while.

If there's so many of you, if all of yous spend a few hours a week playing public, then people like me that don't know where the hell all this "competitive playing" is held at, can have a decent game.

If a bunch of you start playing public, then you won't be playing against only noobs, you'll still be playing against eachother, but you'll also help revive Soldat.

If there's so many of you, if all of yous spend a few hours a week playing public, then people like me that don't know where the hell all this "competitive playing" is held at, can have a decent game.

If a bunch of you start playing public, then you won't be playing against only noobs, you'll still be playing against eachother, but you'll also help revive Soldat.

Are you allowed download stuff from your barracks? You could get IRC and go to gathers.

Meathouse4v4 is a fun European ctf server. Always good ping, no matter where your from.

In any case, F4||3N, I can only speak for myself when I say that most of the time public servers are simply not exciting. I do tend to play on them from time to time but only very rarely. I'll try to make an effort to show up to them a bit more often, though my intentions are mostly to lure those folks to the competitive scene (where all of the real action lies).

Also, I don't know how you haven't managed to find where all of the competitive gaming occurs, what with the top news advertisement periodically featuring a mixture of leagues and gathers, and a billion forum topics doing exactly the same. If you're really interested in getting involved and can't quite figure it out, let me know and I'll help you connect to IRC and get started with gathers.

The only ctf servers that you can play these days are gathers, because that's where everyone goes. Public servers went to the wayside after the gathers got really popular and the "new" scripted gamemodes came out because they were infested with idiots and noobs.

I had it once. I think I was talking to you! Remember, the first and only channel I went on I got banned for who knows what!

Whoa, you don't have to join every single soldat channel, just the few that you actually want to be in. #sna.gather or #soldat.gather are the main two for gathers.

Yeah, you can either manually type /join #sna.gather, /join #soldat.gather, etc., or you can add them all to an auto-join list (the method of which depends upon your particular IRC client; mIRC, for example, has several ways of doing this). There's no need to type /list or whatever and search through all of the 85,000~ channels on QuakeNet.

Trust me, I've been bitching about this for a long time. No offense to any gatherers, but I do think that gathers are part of the problem. Sure, I consider them almost necessary when some of the better players need a nice getaway from pubs, but because of gathers, most regulars ditch public servers altogether. Surprisingly, that takes away a VERY large portion of the people who normally would play in public servers. Nowadays, all you see is subgamemodes like climbing, dodgeball, zombie, etc. It's such a damn shame. We've basically separated ourselves into two main categories: those who play in public servers, and those who don't. It just so happens that without the latter, public CTF servers have lost almost all of their traffic.

Fractured pub is always empty when I check it, and I don't like all the bonus points TBA dishes out   It's not that I can't handle gathers, I just don't find competitive play very fun

I do once in awhile, but sometimes I get vote kicked. Also I doubt the "noobs" want pros to play with them, because pros are at a whole diffrent level.

and since turkey (yes the whole country) is banned and half of polands, it should be pretty clean... but I noticed a bit before I was banned there had come quite many nooby players, but I guess they should've become above average public players by now....
