CTF_Eclipse (updated...)
« on: August 08, 2006, 09:24:34 pm »
Description: I guess this map looks like remake of ctf_Bassaliens by Boxo, however it is not... I was working on it for a long time, and ctf_Bassaliens gave me some really good idias about middle part... So I replased bridge (that i first made) with small island with narrow path at the bottom... Also my map's structure is a bit more complicated. Some unti-spray barriers are presented. Also map has many good places for barret and law ricochets. Creating such dark and mysterious atmosphere I've tried to do my best texturing and shading. Sceneries are mostly X-Tenders grass and some default pinetrees... Also I'm proud of my waypointing ) I hope you'll enjoy playing on it.

Update:a bit asymmetrical scenery placement, better waypoints, fixed bug with nades and medkits, low path become a bit wider.

Waypoints: yes
Recommended Players: 4-6

This is unbelievably awsome. The texturing might be the best I've ever see, and the layout seems flawless.

The only thing I don't like about this map is the perfect symmetry.  Makes things a little less original.

Other than that it's a kick ass map, and a job well done.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Do you honestly need that many polys for the shading?

That's a badass texture.

Looks good, and very detailed, but the symmetry does take away from it...

looks like a cross with a serial killers dream and a work of art.
I love the scenery usage, shading and texture.

Good Job :)

The map looks great. The layout has been used countless times before but I dont think thats all that bad. Its a good balanced map to play on. And combining the looks with the layout, I think this is the one of the best "generic" custom maps. -1 for symmetry.

I give you a 8.0/10

Well, the layout is almost _exactly_ the same as mine, down to all the bumps and angles, but I guess it looks better. :/

And here the central column isn't as high. Sad to see they're that alike, but you managed to create an awesome atmosphere yet again. With your mapping skill, you could have some maps ending up default, but you have to be carefull to keep it look Soldat-ish. This one is just on the border ;)

I dunno if Im too fond of mirrored maps, but this does look pretty sexy. right above the eclipse in the middle, does that look like a body with a skul lhead on it, kinda? to me it sorta resembled it, but the skulls jaw was REALLY thin, lol. w/e. good map!
lol siggeh deleted for the 7th time! that's like a new record or something, ain't it?

a ctf without symetry is never perfectly equal for both teams, symmetry guarentees it, unless you got no left or right arm or something.

Yes but maps that are symmetrical can get boring, I think its more important for them to be interesting and origional than perfectly balanced.

About symmetry... Making just little difrent polygon structure will couse disbalance on small maps. And that disbalance could be bigger imperfection then symmetry. So texturing and shading must be also symmetrical. By the way mirroved texture can give really intresting and unusual effects, like that ~statue or ~throne at the top. here is another example:

The only way to make map unsymmetric is to add some more sceneries... But it current state looks so accomplished... I didn't find any siuteble sceneries...
Anyway symmetry is obvious only on overview; it's difficult to feel symmetry on such detaled map while playing...

What I mean by symmetry is that the layout is the same for both sides. This is one thing that takes away from almost every custom map made nowadays. Check Laos, B2b, Kampf, Viet and the other OLD default maps. They are very fun to play on because each side is different.

This map is Just fantastic, dark and creepy, My taste. Only negative part is (yea) Symmetry, but thats just cause i see some maps as a piece of art, dont think so much of the gameplay, just wanna enjoy the looks of some =P
