Are you fuzz serious?
I just have my second gather ever (first one was months ago, before I got banned for no reason).

I've got to say, the "Mighty Gather Scene" isn't looking so professional anymore!
It's practically my first gather, so obviously I'm going to need time changing from One Hit/fun(hide n seek etc) Publics servers, to gathers "with pros".

So I'm in there, and sure I got a shocking score (13 - 40)ish.
Then all of a sudden I get mega flamed by 4/6 of the server, me being 1/6, called a noob, a dumb jewish f#ck, maybe it was just a taunt, but people saying their gunna f-- my niece..... Etc etc!

I'm like, wtf. Every three seconds I'm being shot across the room by nades, some "pro" using an m79, being nade spawned, while having 4 people flame me.

After the game ends, everyone leaves, I got back to #aus.gather, and heres "Hez" and "Eski" trying to get me banned on the channel? LMAO! Calling me all this random jizz! The funny one was when one of them called me a "disrespectful c--t".

They're Australian, so I don't expect any better, but what happened to this ultra cool gather scene everyone talks about?

So far I'm not impressed. I'd prefer to put up with saw noobs and spawners, and the occasional hacker, and random vote kicks in publics, rather than that trash.

Don't lock this, cause there is a purpose. I was looking forward to joining the gather scene, but after that episode, I don't think I'll bother.

Is there any other Aus* Soldat scene with decent people in it? Preferably realistic CS or something?

Or, additionally, can someone explain to me the better side of that scene!
Because even though publics are fun; I would still like to have a competitive game every now and then!

Heh... welcome to the gather scene. If you aren't a very good player, then, well, you're gonna receive some flak. What you just described sounds like the average whine in the #aus.gather scene.

And Australia only really has one host - GameArena. While the latest server version has given GA the opportunity to run custom maps now, there still doesn't seem to be a high demand within Australia for those kind of things.

First that a team with 150 pings,m79 s and spawnkilling you (Voland and Ash) is more frequent there than in pubs Second is that almost every time someone leaves before the end or  before the tiebreaker. Then of course is the abusing of restart and pause... but overall its still fine.. i guess there are idiots everywhere.

How about don't try gathers at all, it's just an organized version of a public server. There is no difference of the skill between players of pubs to gathers since anyone can join, but it's without the people who can't comprehend IRC at all. You aren't necessary getting to play the "pro" players you so desire to play.

If you want to be good, at least in team based gameplay, create/join a clan and understand the dynamics of teamplay, gain experience of skill/understanding, and not play with random people but people you actually can enjoy playing with.

If you can't take the verbal abuse, you'll never cut it in the competitive scene. Understand that what I've just said is an immutable fact of competitive play in Soldat. There's no way of getting around it, so if you don't think you'll be able to handle it completely, stick with pubs.

Now, if you're able to handle criticism, insults, and random assholes without getting too angry or upset, there's hope that you can begin enjoying yourself in gathers. You asked someone to clarify the better side of the gather scene, but I think that you already did that yourself.

That's it. The biggest plus side of the competitive scene is the general skill level of its players. Jerich couldn't be more wrong in what he says. The average level of skill between any group of pubbers and any group of gather players is huge. It's true that you'll find a couple of pubbers who could stand their own in gathers, and you'll also find some gather players here and there who, despite playing a while, seem like they just aren't good enough to compete, but, more often than not, the skill disparity between the two is immense, and it's almost invariably stacked against the pubber.

Aside from the skill, you won't find much in gathers that you wouldn't also find in pubs, except perhaps for a better sense of community (once you adjust to the scene and people get to know you, that is). In addition to the bad guys you've already met, you'll find good people who don't whine and complain and won't hassle you about your skill level (especially if they know that you're new). You'll find that you enjoy playing with some people more than others, but you'll soon adjust to playing with them all if you just don't let the pissy ones get under your skin. Try not to argue with them (take jrgp's advice), and just try to do your best in the game. After a few weeks/months of playing, you'll notice that your scores will have improved, and you'll find that you're generally a better player than you were coming into the scene. With that, you'll also notice that people won't be hassling you as much.

Both of you mention spawnkilling. In the competitive scene, spawnkilling doesn't have the same negative stigma that's attached to it in pubs. Basically the rule of thumb is that if you're good enough, you won't get spawnkilled to the extent that it's a major hindrance to you or your team. It's considered fair play and a valid part of the game. The same goes for using the M79 or any other weapon, though you might find a few people who will whine about it.

Unfortunately, people leaving early and pausing too frequently are genuine problems. Report those players to the gather administrators and hopefully they'll be warned or removed from the channel. I see a lot of people complaining that gather administrators don't do enough to eliminate such troublemakers, but the fact of the matter is that often the admins simply don't know about it because nobody reports problems to them. Let the administrators know, and be ready to provide proof (screenshots, other player reports, etc.) if necessary.

Overall, you guys gotta understand that gathers and pubs are completely different aspects of Soldat, and it just takes some time to get used to a new way of doing things. If you're having a lot of trouble with one particular gather service, try a different one and you might find that you like it or its players better. #aus.gather, #soldat.gather, #sna.gather: you've got choices. If you think that you can maintain your cool and understand that taking a bit of trash talk is all part of the game, give gathers another try. They're really a lot of fun once you know their ins and outs.

I played a few gathers, and this never happens to me, whether the people on soldat.gather are friendlier I don't know, but most people have a point, alot of people who play gathers are elitist fagots, and don't tolerate people who are new to the scene, and would rather flame then help.

i left clan/gather scene a while ago but then when i go to Pubs this happens... (yeah i got kicked) it's sad that instead of learning from an experienced player people just closes its mind, whine about it and off course acuse of hacking... if you're like my dear voter in terms of skill and more important attitude, take your time to get some experience first and it will help so you can enjoy your game more.

Eh just deal with it and keep playing. I think my score was more or less the same as that when I first started gather-ing, but after only a few games it started being more respectable.

I figured they were trouble makers anyway. One of them joined the following game and when it ended people were trying to get him banned because he 'rage quit'?

That's why I didn't take it to serious and I'm willing to give it another go.

I use to vote people for hacking to, that's why I want to move further up in the chain. I can actually handle being beaten now, though I won't lie, occasionally when I'm in a bad mood I throw a hack vote out when people pull of impossible shots over and over, even though I've played games where every spray has gotten a kill.

The biggest problem for me is nades. I've only recently started playing in servers with autos and nades, but even they didn't have the amount of nade usage gather does.

You look at the kill log and it's "nade... nade... nade... nade... nade... nade... gun".

But I realize I just need to to adjust. That's the main reason for this post, people in their just didn't realize going from pubs to gathers has differences.

It's not so much that everyone in the gathers are better then anyone in pubs. Just different tactics are used!

I rarely do it anymore. Plus I f11 if anyone else gets voted for a stupid reason!

For the first year of playing I got kicked every game for lagging. That kinda sent me on the wrong path with the whole vote abuse thing. Lately I don't get kicked, not even when I have 500-1000 ping, so now I don't see any reason to get anyone else kicked.

I'm gunna try a gather again later on, come in and see how bad I am! xD

Sounds like you were playing against ZeroStatic...

Also, yes, vote kicking will get you banned. And since the percentage is set to 100%, votekicks will fail anyway.
