Melee or Brawl?
« on: August 13, 2009, 05:48:36 pm »
Gamecube's Super Smash Bros. Melee or Wii's Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

Personally, it's the former I like better. It feels somewhat more polished than the latter. I've had pratice with the former a lot, and it's natural for me to stick with games I'm good at.

I just think Brawl is a little too overdetailed, and although it's packed with lots of extras and unlockables, they aren't really that useful to me.

In the meantime, discuss either.

I prefer Melee as well. Like you said, some of the stuff in Brawl was cool, but some of it was just dumb, like putting Pkmn Trainer in there as part of the roster. Also, for some reason, some of the smash hits seem to lack "umph".

Some of my favorite oldies characters have been nerfed, like Samus, Link, and Ness.

I like brawl more. Less n00b fox's 0-kill waveshining combos and more skill.

Plus...

Brawl slightly over Melee only because I like Luigi and the fast people got slower and Luigi stayed the same so I could handle people using like Fox better. But my friends like Melee more so we usually play it anyway. And there's some zeta fun people added that are hilarious to play.

melee was more fun, more skill based. Brawl is more noob friendly, but still one can be skilled.

Brawl seems overcomplicated to me. I don't have any consoles so I can't exactly go back and check melee, but that's the impression I get from occasional playing at friends' houses.

Despite having a wii, I've only ever played Melee. And I like it. So I guess I'll just have to default to Melee then.

..Poll?

Brawl has too many useless characters and too many unbalanced characters. Melle took a lot more skill to play and doesn't have any "completely pointless" filler characters or obviously overpowered characters. You can always beat one character with another.

I don't play in SSB leagues so the unbalance doesn't concern me. Brawl wins due to being a lot better in every other aspect... Music, stages, characters, solo mode, achievements and much more.

Though I dislike Mario's Spin attack being replaced by a water cannon. ;(

Down ariel makes it just as good, and the fludd is a pwnage edge guard against dudes with bad recoveries.

Brawl has too many useless characters and too many unbalanced characters.
Useless characters maybe, but they're far better balanced than melee characters. In melee there is Fox, Marth, or Sheik. Noone else wins (except for the occasional Falco, but he can't shine like Fox can).

Melee by far! The only thing Brawl really has to offer is a shitload of new characters, but they fucked that up as well when they decided to put them in the place of some of the old ones. Who gives a fuck about cartoon link? The Wind Waker and The Phantom Hourglass were shitty games anyway. And young link was one of my favorites in the old game, he was a nice spinoff of Link. Then of course there's a million new items, some of them which actuall have some potential to them, but items were never that much fun to begin with, and after playing for a while, you'll turn them off to get back to basics.

And why, OH WHY, did they remove Roy? Roy and Marth were my absolute favorites back in Melee. Marth vs. the fast enemies and Roy vs. the slow ones - an unbeatable team!

All in all I just liked the old one better. In fact I liked the n64 version better than Brawl. Seemed to me Melee was much faster and more accurate, and that really is something that appeals to me in a fighting game. While BRawl is not a bad game in itself, it lets its prequels down with a passion. Which is too bad really, 'cause you can tell they had a lot of good ideas when they started making it. I guess, somewhere along the way, they just dropped te ball.

Roy is pretty terrible in melee.

And toon link is awesome! Too bad link is so horrible in brawl.

People hate brawl because it's slower and harder to combo, but I like it because it's far more strategy oriented. And it's the only one in which one of the strongest attacks in the game is a fart.

He's not! He's fast, faster than most in the game, but he has the ability to turn on powerful attacks when the opportune moment arrives. That's pretty epic.

If you mean link then I think you are mistaken. Link has no recovery. Period. He's probably the easiest to gimp off stage of all the characters.

If you like heavies stick with DK, D3, or snake.

Uuhm.. noo, I mean Roy. And it's not that I like heavies, in fact I hate'em. That's why I'm saying Roy is awesome, 'cause he's got semi-heavy capabilities while still being a lightweighter.

Eh Ike is better in Brawl than Roy was in melee.

Look at tournament rankings for melee. 99% of them have a marth, fox, falco, or sheik as #1. It's not a hidden thing, it's very well known that they are broken.

In brawl, because there is a larger character pool there are far more top tier characters that win more often, and there's less difference between them. The only one that is close to broken is possibly MK, just 'cause he can be campy and annoying as hell when played right.

I'm not really interested in SSBM tournaments where they have some of the high tier characters as you have mentioned; Fox, Sheik, Captain Falcon, Marth and Falco.

I'm more interested in how creative some tournament-level players can be with some of the lower-tier characters like Peach, Yoshi, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff and Luigi.

With any luck, some high tier characters would be semi-bannable in future tournaments, if there's still any.

ike is insane, I'll give you that. But I don't quite like the way he moves, so I rarely play him. And I don't play tounaments, I'm sad to say. It's not that I don't wanna, it's just I don't have a wii of my own, so I only play when I'm at my sisters place :P
