Proxy?
« on: August 22, 2009, 07:17:22 am »
A couple of weeks ago I was on the CS community page, asking about server related things.
Someone told me it probably won't work, and I should just use a proxy.

I don't know much about them, I think I used one through a web browser once.
I just need to know how to set one up/use it/whatever.

It's so I can access a server and not get ping kicked. (Think it's located in Germany)

Um... if you go through a proxy, you're just gonna get ping kicked more, because it's gonna take longer for packets to be transferred through the proxy to your computer than it was before.

Plus, if I'm making the right assumption, you can't connect Soldat through a web proxy anyway.

And what were those server related problems anyway?
We need all the info you can provide us with, as then it is easier to solve the problem for us.

Not an HTTP proxy, but it is possible to set up a proxy that will allow you to connect on other ports.

You'd need access to your own server or VPN to do that though. Don't think there are any free solutions.

I know, I know, but I got the impression he was wanting to use a HTTP proxy to try and do it... :S

I just wanted to play r/s on cs maps, without getting ping kicked!

I thought there might be a program to do it.
I told you I don't know much about them. But it's obvious you can't connect Soldat through a web browser.

If it's not possibly then it's all good.

Proxies are pretty much only used for privacy and security for things that do not require low ping, like: internet browsing / IM'ing. They're not used at all for online gaming, as that will increase your ping by a few thousand.

Soldat could probably be played through a socks5 proxy with the help of an additional program, and maybe through an ssh tunnel or similar thing
Edit: ssh only supports tcp tunneling
