Intended Life Goal(s)
« on: September 03, 2009, 07:06:43 pm »
As far as interesting reads go, there aren't many in these forums nowadays. In an, admittedly, feeble attempt at changing that, I ask you fine forum-goers to reply with what you plan to do with your life and why. Feel free to make further inquiries or give helpful advice.

For starters, I am currently an undergraduate biology major and couldn't be happier. Throughout my life, every career I have ever wanted to pursue has involved animals in some manner, ranging from paleontology to veterinary school. In particular, the family Felidae piqued my interest more than others... I'm a cat lover. At the present moment, I am working towards a career in zoology with the intent of working at the Cincinnati Zoo, either in its Cat House, as a part of its Cat Ambassador program, or at the Zoo's regional cheetah breeding facility, Mast Farm.

On a, somewhat, unrelated note, the link in my signature is to the national undergraduate biological honor society, Beta Beta Beta.

There's no money in biology. Chemists invent WD-40 and they're set for life. Biologists have to be ridiculed by the church for like 100 years before they even become popular.

I want to build myself a replica AC Shelby Cobra. Since that will cost me a shit-ton of money in the mean time I'll just watch top gear like any other gear head.

Now I'm not that great in studying, but I am hoping to become a champion in a Kumdo tournament.

It's either that, or becoming a military engineer, I've always been interested in building and fixing things.

Protip: Learn to use the high tech equipment used to get the job done.  Experience sells itself, despite what some 4 year old bastard says.   ;D

All of you who want to go to college, do it.  Make it happen.  Like...right f*cking now.  Do it.

Why?  Because I was in the same boat, looking at the same question, roughly eight years ago.  I'm glad I went to college.  Gained skills, gained knowledge, and gained employment.  Like I said, why aren't you doing it yet?

Wasn't there a commercial that sounded like that?..in the nineties?

Anyhow, intended life goals are as follows:  1) Learn how to use as many scientific instruments, skillfully, as possible. 2) ??? , 3) Profit.

That and all the hippy crap about learning about yourself and living your life and all.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Either double major in Physics and Chemistry for undergrad and go for a PHD in one of them. I'm starting to lose interest though, as much as I love the subjects I couldn't stand doing them as a job. Being stuck in a lab or teaching is murder to me. Science is a hobbie, not a career for me.

My other choice would be to try going for detective work and eventually working my way up to a government detective type (FBI, CIA), these jobs would bring me much more happiness.

When I'm all to old for that I plan to get into the political business.

Both my parents are PhD's in molecular biology, they make decent money and do enjoy their work.

As for me, a nice degree in computers would be nice. Considering teaching, but not sure about that.

Get back into the Army. Graduate EOD training. Get deployed as many times as possible until I find a wife. Settle down and have some kids. Maybe take up a teaching job in the EOD field.

Also get some confirmed kills, that is only a bonus level though.

Good goals all around for everyone.

Me: find a job or jobs that let me travel around the world.
Fall unmistakably in love and be loved in return, travel the world with my love.
Settle down in a switcheroo: live and work in the city for six months of the year, live and work in a small coastal town for the other six.
Have children.
Travel with the children every chance we get.

And/or: change the fabric of society in some way with a fundamental scientific, philosophical, or political contribution.

Overthrow the government, change the Constitution, declare the fourth republic.

Wimp, plane crash is the only respectable way to die for musicians.

That's an anti-climactic way to die.

Play guitar/sing, probably for a band. What else would I do with those talents.
Become some renowned photographer without any social pressure, or pressure in general. That way I could stop any time I felt like it.
Write something revolutionary; some book that makes gullible writers change their writing styles to appeal to the new standard. Then write a song that ridicules people like that. I'd feel toasty inside. Not gonna happen.
Um.
Getting married sounds nice... she better be some crazy fun b***h. Preferably no kids, at least until I've used every renowned talent I have into the ground.
Don't feel like thinking of a preferred way to die.

I'm not making all of these goals up.

I didn't lose a chance to get an m1, I know where to go to get one when I feel I can afford to spend that much money(At a better price too). I saw two thompsons at the show as well. One was refurbished and one had an ugly fiberglass butt. Also I got to put my hands on a SW 500(peemonkey's baby), only got to look at the judge though. Saw what seemed to be a HEAT rifle grenade(Had all the ID features, but not 100% sure, only about 90%) on some random rifle that was not for sale.

I have a Lee Enfield mk3 SMLE
Yeah they had a few of those there as well, nice rifle but its not on the top of my list.

Get a Bachelor degree in music. With majors in Live Music Performance as well as Music Composition and Audio Recording. If I don't have a record deal by then I might finish my 6 years of music and get a masters degree. If I get a record deal before 4 years I will only take a music diploma and get the fuck out of Canada and move to L.A.

Anyway, my goals are to finished my final year of college, get a decent job, then get married and settle down happily with my new family.

Well, two out of three isn't too bad.  I've got five weeks of college left and a great job lined up, but I still have to find my soulmate.

I think I should add the goal of being a published author to my checklist.  If motivation remains, I should finish my current writing project (currently 86,000 words, with a projected total of 200,000 by the time I'm done) by the end of the year, and it's on to bigger and better things after that.  I have vague plans for another novel of similar length, a collection of short stories, and a series of novellas.  Oh, I also want to come up with a unique and original plot, rather than just twisting existing ones that I like. <_<

On that note, if you guys are wondering what happened to me after that "Gamer_2k4 is writing faster than a 32x CD burner" topic I posted a while back (and I know you're not :P), rest assured that I've continued work and will post another six chapters in a month or so.

Playing in a G3 Concert (http://www.satriani.com/G3/) along with Joe Satriani (http://www.satriani.com/ & http://weblogs.dailypress.com/entertainment/music/pop/blog/joesatriani[1].jpg) and Steve Vai (http://www.vai.com/index_wildthings.html & http://musiccourt.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/steve_vai.jpg).

I freaking love G3, and those two guys.

Also, I would love to propose to my Girlfriend after a show of mine, assuming I would have one at that time, and we both love each other a lot :)

1) Graduate college with a Bachelor's in Computer Science.
2) Start a career earning decent pay.
3) Settle down and start a family.
4) Go into astronomy.
5) Profit.
6) ???
7) Happiness.

This is still pretty much right on the dot.

graphic design/web developer.  i know it sounds like a nerdy thing to do, but I'm acing graphic design class and i aced web publishing class too/

I suggest not choosing a certain career or occupation because you are good at it.
Make sure you like it...Let me rephrase that...Make sure you LOVE it.
Nothing is worse then doing something you don't enjoy 5 times a week.  :-\

Become the best Network Engineer. EVER. Maybe work for Cisco, they're supposedly pretty high in the best employers list.

I've changed a fair bit.

Psychology (yes me and every 14 year old girl), but I plan on going for a Ph.D as that's the only way to make money in it.  I also plan on getting a BA in Art, and where that leads is a total mystery.

After I finish never-ending college, I have only a few desires: I never want to own  a house renting/apartments work for me, I don't want to live anywhere for over 5-7 years (flexible job for sure), and I don't plan on owning much of anything either probably around 10 personal items I care about.  I'd start a family and by not owning much I'd have extra money to throw around for the moving and vacations and shit.

I'm an undergrad biology major aiming to become a marine biologist (my passion). I wanna get married, have kids, and have an awesome life.

There are tons of other goals I have for myself on the side:
- Learn guitar (acoustic)
- Learn drums
- Learn Italian
- Travel by plane
- Travel by train
- See Dave Matthews Band in concert
- Learn to surf
- Learn to scuba dive
- Have a bonfire part on an ocean beach

etc.

If you're going to travel by plane, travel somewhere nearby. The most "exciting" parts are taking off and touching down. The rest is pure fucking boredom. I sit through a 14-hour flight twice every other summer or so.

If you're lucky you might get some turbulence during the flight. That's even better than landig and taking off. It sucks anyway.

Or if you're real lucky, ya just might crash on an island with some weird-ass people, polar bears and smoke monsters and shit

Life goals?
Just have fun. Move to some other rich-ass European country. Drink, travel, party, fuck women from as many countries as possible (even though I just landed in a relationship, nothing lasts forever, eh?). As for a job, I've always loved flying and the sea, but I'd be way too much away from home then, so I got no f-ing idea at this point... gonna go study business in university this year though, so I'll figure out what I wanna do at some point.
