please no more new game modes, hold the flag was a sweet idea and you still see how it failed... just fix the bugs and if anyone wants new game modes, they can just script it in their servers.

Probably I won't be able to make it for public beta tests - I'm now working...other problem is that I don't have  access to the internet right now (except my work)....

Moar features! Moar useless bloat no one wants! Postpone bugfixes! Concentrate on maximizing respect.

I understand that many people want bug fixes to be the primary focus of the next version (indeed, I am one such person), but that doesn't mean that the addition of new features is necessarily a bad thing. So long as these new features don't considerably delay the version's release and don't contribute to a plethora of new bugs in themselves, they could very well be a good thing. I'm especially curious to see what the "extra map features to provide exciting new gameplay elements" are, and I'm definitely looking forward to the enhanced Script Core.

As long as the beta is thoroughly tested, we should be able to please everybody in the end. I'm considering the possibility of changing one or two of the SNAG servers to beta servers when the time comes (assuming we have the requisite dedicated server release too), which I think will allow for a lot of bug-finding that ordinarily wouldn't occur if people were left to beta public servers. Hopefully the other popular gather providers will follow suit.

Aside from the beta itself, I'm disappointed that EnEsCe doesn't post announcements like these on the OFFICIAL FORUMS anymore. He's been avoiding this place like the plague since the ping controversy. I don't know if he's intimidated by the potential backlash he'll face or if he's bitter because he was removed as an admin, but regardless of the reason, his refusal to face the community is only hindering the mending of his image, damaging the fairly open relationship he seemed to once have with us, and leaving open the questions about his character that were raised when the whole issue reared its ugly head. I don't see what he is gaining by avoiding this community.

i just want something that isn't useless, like the chat lobby.

EnEsCe can't really be blamed for the time wasted in creating the chat lobby. It was a widely requested feature, and many people thought that it would be more popular than it is. I still feel that connecting it to QuakeNet, the hub of the Soldat IRC fanbase, rather than to its own private network, would have potentially allowed it to see a lot more usage. However, I do agree with you in general that useful features and bug fixes should have precedence over things that won't change much in terms of game play (e.g. exploding heads, which are somewhat cool but practically useless).

I want them as soon as possible. I for one am tired of gigantic patches every eon. Small, timely patches would be a much better idea, each new feature can be discussed, bugs can be taken care of, move on.

You need to let more people into the production, bug testing, and editing team.

There needs to be an option to auto-update from Soldat itself.

That way a new version can be released every two weeks. (Bug fix)

Things would be a lot more efficient that way!

We wouldn't have to put up with simple, yet annoying bugs for 6 months.

Exactly, self-updating or atleast when you open up soldat letting you know theres a new patch/update for the game. And we wait more than 6 months...more like 6 years.

Well...  It would be more work, but it would give us a feeling we are constantly updating.
Although it sounds nice, I'm not convinced. Vote it on enesce's blog perhaps?
You would constantly have to adapt to the new update, and we would have to test every update before release.
From the players view it would be a yes, but from the overall ''what's best for soldat'' view, it would be a no.

I think we just don't like the current version enough to tolerate the wait

Fix all bugs please.

I just think what a newcomer player think about all these bugs in a simple game like Soldat. Fix it and grab new players, else not.

We already have that.

It's kinda useless imo if there's a new version maybe every ~ 8-12 months.

Taking the time to code an autoupdater which e.g. compares the checksums of certain soldatfiles on your hdd with the ones on some official server and - if necessary - updates them, would be such a big step to a less buggy game. I can't understand why this way of updating (checking single files and updating) is not possible or would lead to big problems. I mean Soldat doesn't really have things like services, drivers, registry-entries and stuff - it's just the files afaik (.inis, .dlls, maps, scenery, textures, .exes, ...).
There are many tools (like J-Downloader, Load!, ...) which use this technique and it seems to me like the perfect way to provide fast bugfixes/new features and keep ur software up-2-date.
You could for example update every month on a certain day (like Xfire)...

Can someone explain to me what the disadvantages are?

...sry for my fucking english...

You know what Soldat needs?

Separate patch files. Instead of going straight to a single data file!
And then an official update of the main data!

That way you can:
Have simple bug fixes, without the need for a new version!
Maybe even crazy new features that might ruin gameplay.
If it sucks, then don't include it in the official update!

(Looking through the directory, is there even a main data file? Couldn't see one)
