Soldat Immediately Stops Responding When It's Started

First off, I will not tolerate "omg ur a cheeter". This is a fresh install.

Now, as to my actual problem. Every time I try to run Soldat, it immediately locks up, freezes, etc, and Windows gives it the label "Not Responding". I have to kill it through Task Manager every time. I know it's not trying to load the opening video, that's always loaded within two seconds.

It's not my specs, Soldat always ran fine on them before. The only changes are:

Size of HD (from 30 GB to ~1.4 TB)
Windows Drive Letter (I:\). Moving to the C:\ drive is not an option for me, as that wound up being a card reader, and I am unable to switch it around again.

Also, it likes to minimize when I start it, but it doesn't always. If you have no idea what that is all about, then I know what it is (I have this issue with every game)

Do you have the latest version of DirectX installed? Are your video card drivers up to date? If it really effects every game you try to play, it's likely at least one of these issues.

I have also been having this problem.  I have tried fresh reinstalls and everything else I can think of.  I have been hoping that someone else would have this problem (no offenese) so that I could learn to solve it.  At first I thought it might have been mods I have been using, but that turned out not to be the case.  Soldat was working fine (and yes I have the newest version) and all of a sudden it just stopped working one day.  If anyone knows how to solve this problem, help is appreciated.  Also, I'm using Windows Vista, if that has any consequence.

i have EXACTLY the same problem. Ive posted this same error on soldatrs forum, no help thus far. Im on vista as well, and it used to work.

Drivers fully updated, im on directx 10. 64-bit vista.

I use vista 4 soldat too...a bit sucky right? Yea....you are gonna to change soldat.exe in properties to "always run as an Administrator" or "change windows preferences to XP service pack"

but im sure we have it already running as admin and in compatability with xp service pack 2.
for some reason i think theres a registry clash (because i know nothing about system registry thats why).
Seeing as how it used to work but wont now, ive tried countless clean re-installs.

I guess we need more information about that issue to find out what causes the error.
When you wait some time isn't there a popup comming up to send the information to Microsoft?
If thats the case try to find out what it wants to send to MS.
This information might be useful to solve the problem.

It's not. I have latest DirectX, and though my video card drivers are out of date, it's not the problem, everything worked one format ago on the same drivers.

Also, if I wait for a long time, nothing happens. I tried that.

The minimization isn't an issue, I can deal with that myself.

oh, i dont have the same minimalization problam as lavacano, mine just sits on the profile select screen with no text, not responding.

Everything else on my laptop works, games such as farcry 2, arma 2.

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall soldat?
You have any other tools like ChatMod or something like that in your folder which might cause this crash?

Do you see the Soldat nagscreen when you run it unregistred?
Does it start hanging at that nagscreen?
No? When does it start hanging then?

i Have the unreg'd version, it doesnt hang till after the nagscreen.
It hangs on the profile select or user select or watever, screen. as soon as it comes up
ive tried CLEAN re-installs that means totally wiping any trace of soldat from my laptop.
i dont use any soldat mods.

Can't get much information about the bug here.

Well lets ask a few questions:
Did you try to play it in windowed or fullscreen mode?
You tried to change the color depth with config.exe?
Have you set compatibility mode and other options in config.exe?

uhh no .. of course not 

ive tried fullscreen, and different combinations of all that (dithering, anti-aliasing) .
How do you change the colour depth?
ive tried all the troubleshooting opttions in SETUP as well

I meant the bitrate in config.exe

If this doesn't help I would like you to join #soldat.devs IRC channel on quakenet too speed things up.

THE SOLUTION:

You must disable read only from soldat directory and remove compatibility mode, for ALL USERS, hit apply.
and it should work xD
