What do you do to improve yourself competitively?
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:30:53 pm »
It's something I have been wondering for a while, so can people fill me in about this? I usually use bots to train, as actual servers are laggy for me to improve, so I want to know if there is a way to train other than using bots.

What kind of matches are you referring to?  Clan? Normal CTF? TW? ???

Assuming you're referring to any, I usually just used bots to train barret and ruger, when I still played Soldat. Must give them guns and high accuracy of course. :p

If you play on laggy servers you train on laggy servers.

Try gathers. Its semi-competitive. Try playing servers on (place where you are from).

If servers are too laggy to play and train on, then how are you gonna be playing at a competion at all? o_O

And not only that, but bots will never compare to human players and their possible tactics.

I fap, which really helps keep your hand coordinated. Also, regularly go back in forth between multiple computers, which keeps you much more well rounded and able to adapt. And use grenades profusely; work on your aim especially; mind your distance.

Hmm I can't really give advice about a server seeing as how most servers are sub gamemodes. I'd say gather or perhaps join a clan.

Coordinated? More like you'd be feeling overall relaxed and peaceful instead. :P

You make it sound like that's degradational to your Soldat skills. :|

I'd say play gathers on IRC. And remember, lag is almost feature of Soldat so it's good to play on latency too. Public games are not really worth of playing if you want to improve your skills much. That's just my opinion.

But thats because soldat is about MEAT, GUNS , LARGE HAIRY MEN and FOCUS. After fapping, I'll be too relaxed to be focused properly for a proper game. I'd be rather dicking around than playing for real. :D

Fapping is good "after-soldat" (after-ski pun hehe) to cool you down after all that MANLINESS ACTION as MM would put it.

If you over do it, you're almost guaranteed a carpet tunnel o.O

Not if you use proper ergonomics techniques. (have a gellpad right in front of your keyboard and mouse which your wrists lay on)

Bots aren't horrible for training accuracy, but truly the best way to go is playing a lot of serious games online. Be in a clan and do clan matches as much as you can, play gathers when you can't, etc.

Maybe isn't but bots don't move like real players. Real players try to dodge your bullets, bots don't do that.

Play, play, play and play.

The most important aspect of practicing anytihng is to do it, A LOT.
The second important aspect of practicing anything is to do it against right people(Gathers, clans).
The third important aspect of practicing anything is to do it with right people(Clan mates).
The fourth important aspect of practicing anything is to do it MORE.
The fifth important aspect of practicing anything is to do it AGAIN.

Play, play, play and play!

I used to do 10-15 gathers a day for a few weeks some 6 months ago, and definitely saw notable improvement after many months of break from Soldat. The key is to PLAY ACTIVELY. The MOST IMPORTANT THING is to PLAY ACTIVELY. If you don't PLAY ACTIVELY, you WILL NOT become GOOD.

If you play publics alot, your playing style will be inefficient for competitive scene(clanwars, gathers to some extent). I've witnessed this myself, on myself. When you're good, you play VERY arrogantly in publics, VERY offensively because you can beat juts about anyone in 1v1 situations. In competitive games this is NOT the case. If you rush, you die. In competitive games you MUST be careful, and MUST opt to play carefully in all situations, and get used to play carefully. IF you play on pubs, you CAN NOT learn to play carefully. Hence publics are good to some extent, after certain point they will just DEGRADE your ability to play efficiently in competitive games. They can improve your aiming skills for example, but overall publics do more harm than good for competitive players.

Over and out.
