Basic layouts are always the best. Keep up with this kind of stuff.

Looks like a pinwheel on that sketch.

Alright, so, preferences on how this map could look.

By the title, this is a cave. A desert cave. I've never been in a "desert cave," but one can imagine... For those who have seen Laurence of Arabia, or (more preferably) know what the desert looks like first-hand will know that lots of desert places aren't simply "big rolling sand dunes." But, for everyone that doesn't give a rip and likes the biased desert/sand look, that's what we should work off of, aye?

Okay, so now step two: how shall this idea be carried out? We are in a cave. So, the walls should be rock. What type of rock? Grey, brown, tan? Good question, you make that judgment :P. Next, what shall the floor be like. I suggest having parts of the ground be sand (sand has blown in and settled to the bottom over time).
How was this cave formed? I frankly know little on any science of this sort... but it could help in emulating the texture and feeling of "a real desert cave."

That's about all I've got for you, just talking out my thoughts as they come.
