I don't like how the Avatar trailers remind me highly of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. I consider that a horrendously terrifying turn off. However I love most of Cameron's work, such as T1/T2 and boat movie, so yeah, I might see it when it comes out on dvd.

Lovely sound effects and has anyone notticed that the airplanes were from Halo? (Except the bomber one)

Is it wrong that I was rooting for the humans at the end? Maybe I just hoped that they'd sacrifice a stereotypical ending for a logical one (that is, the dudes with the crazy awesome technology should be able to take out a few archers).
That would be interesting, however one of the best ways to battle a techreliant enemy is to go techfree.

I was a little skeptical on the 3d but it worked out in the end. Hard time focusing in the beginning though.

Who the f**k would not wipe out a village for a room temperature super conductor? Humans are trying to expand and explore life and they need that material in order to build more starships, and a bunch blue smurfs are stopping them? Agent orange time.

EDIT: Yeah I forgot to mention that I thought the story was preachy and cliched.

Fixed, and I suppose that IS sort of what happened with the Void (or whatever it was called).

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

No I mean a tech reliant enemies weakness is its technology. It's how we fought the british, instead of fighting on their battleground we made our own. Not specifically technology but still the heart of the point is the same.

Avatar was like someone took a huge 3D dump on my eyes while wearing a furry suit. To describe it in more detail...

Plot: FernGully, except that the ooze was replaced by a racist Texan with a mech suit that wielded a bowie knife.
Characters: Despite being in 3D, they were as one dimensional as cardboard cut-outs.
Graphics: Mind blowing, but this isn't a videogame. Good graphics do not make up for the rest of it being spacecat puke.

Best part of the movie. AND he was killing furries.

They should have just made the movie about him cleansing the fowl xeno scum from Pandora. Napalm, Chainsaws and nukes.

I was convinced the humans were going to win the ground war because the smurfs made a tactical mistake.  Disregarding his defensive advantage and knowlege of the terrain, moron from dodgeball led a charge at the enemy with not even a vague attempt at surprise.

The entire second half was 300 all over again for me.  Probably explains why I loved it so much.  They did a nice job presenting their vision of a far off world.

Also every merc with a speaking role eventually said "Get some"

I entered the McDonalds avatar competition, so far I have four cupons.  The prize is a trip to Canada to meet with Ubisoft game designers, and then come home to a new home theatre and the Avatar PS3 game.  There are also clothing items and stuff to be won.  I am not really interested in any of this but it's free so why the hell not :P

but what to mech suits carry?

I decided to see it again in 3D late last night, so I went and was very impressed.  It's like they added another rule to the art of filming, they needed to plan shots that would look good in 3D that were awesome enough to keep it interesting, yet subtle enough shots to not make it boring after five minutes.  It was awesome.

But Graham, every knife with a clip point HAS to be a bowie.

4yo your are even more of a dumbass I thought possible. Every knife with a blade is a bowie... everyone knows this.

Anyway I am heading to jacksonville this saturday, to hang out with my buddy during the day then watching avatar in 3d at the imax there. I am beyond excited, I can't really afford this trip but stress from finances is really building up. I need some escape.
