Shock weapon, is it possible?

Ok, so I was thinking that, and i started to do mod from District 9 -move because I liked that movie a lot. so, there was that gun wich shot some kind of electricity, so is it possible to make weapon shoot something that looks like electricity? more like, umm... Thunderstorm electricity?

Well I made the Arc gun as chainsaw with longer range, but you can do it in other way, make a long fire image and make invisible bullets, the problem is that the bullets will fall when you are on the air and you fire.
