True, but the idea that the only way to help is donating to organizations has make helping others just a matter of "feel good" charity.  I would rather donate to someone that is raising funds so go over and help. I would check out ways to go and help myself but I can barely help myself right now.

If you actually think about it this planet is, mildly speaking, FRIGGIN HUGE, especially compared to the rather small human population of less than 7 billion.

If the problem is our lifestyle, then that's what we have to change, not how many of us there are. And the problem is exactly that our population is too large; not for Earth, but for the way our civilization is structured. And besides, we need to learn to utilize the oceans as living space (how cool would underwater apartments be?), considering that 70% of our planet is covered in them.

Anyway, despite the annoyance of being reminded of Haiti every waking moment of my day, it's good to know that there are people headed there right now to do some actual labor to help out however they can. I do think it's ironic that Americans apparently despise socialist values, yet when disaster strikes, they swoop in and give, give, give.
