Soldat/THD/U13/PuttyNuts IP Renumbering
« on: January 23, 2010, 04:19:28 pm »
Hey guys,

The host I have has recently acquired a second upstream provider and their own IP block.  To aid in the network redundancy going forwards, they are having all of their customers renumber into their new allocation.  For me, this means going from 67.106.77.0/24 to 204.80.93.0/24.

For most of you this should mean nothing, as I will very carefully migrate my 3 physical servers and dozen or so virtual machines into the new network.

However, for others you may need to do something.  Over the past few years here and there, people have come up with various work arounds for lobby, site, and forum DNS or migration issues which involved editing your hosts file on your computer.  If you have ever done this, it is important to note the following changes, or more preferably just remove all related entries from your hosts file as they're not helping you or anyone anymore.

For those of you who need to care about this for any reason, here are the changes:
u13.net, puttynuts.com and all of the other sites that I host as U13/PuttyNuts used to be 67.106.77.184.  These are now 204.80.93.32.

Most of the sites and projects I host on the THD server for MM are on 67.106.77.7, which will now be 204.80.93.35.  The "static content" webserver on the THD server was 67.106.77.200, and will now be 204.80.93.34.  The static content webserver also hosts some of the more simple php-based sites like forums.soldat.pl.

The lobby server was 67.106.77.21.  It will now be 204.80.93.31204.80.93.36(see below).

My primary mail server and primary nameserver was 67.106.77.17 (two separate VMs).  It will now share the same IP as the lobby server (even though they are 3 separate VMs, they pass through the same firewall).  204.80.93.31 is the new one for all 3.

The primary u13/puttynuts game server was 67.106.77.193 and will now be 204.80.93.33.

I think these are the only changes that are likely to be relevant to any of you.  The old addresses in 67.106.77.0/24 will remain active until mid-February.  I will be adding the new addresses over the next few days and transitioning between the two.

IPv6 addresses for everything will not be changing.  Things that share an IPv4 IP (like the mx01/ns1/lobby) will still continue to have their own unique IPv6 IPs.

Please let me know if I skipped anything important or if there are any questions.

Update:  The lobby is now 204.80.93.36 due to an unforeseen port overlap with other services using the IP 204.80.93.31 (port 80)

I just made a rather large round of DNS changes.  Please let me know if you see any problems with anything I host within the next 48 hours

I just made a large batch of (what should be) the rest of the IP and DNS changes.  As of now the old IPs are still active, but are supposed to go inactive within the next 24 hours.  Please report absolutely any problems at all here.

My apologies in advance for any issues that are encountered.

BNC and SSH login on outcry.u13.net no longer work, connecting to both old and new IP's return invalid login.

Same [randomly] goes for Soldat servers hosted there.

Still?  Which new ip are you trying?

I've gotta get the quakenet trust updated with the new IP.

What is happening with soldat servers?  Do not use the 67.106 IP for anything anymore, please test everything with the new IP

Thank you for someone finally giving me useful details.  I see that I fatfingered a DNS entry, will fix it now.

fixed.  DNS changes will propagate.  For now everyone should use outcry.puttynuts.com

Can everyone check everything again now?  Server performance?  anything not working or not performing well?  I've gotten a surprisingly tiny amount of feedback from ... nobody.

Sorry man :p

Not much problems here. I use g1.u13.net as it is shorter then outrcy and It all seems to work fine.
No complaints from the players on the server except during the transfer some were under the impression it was down, so my guess is that it runs fine.

You know how it works, you won't hear sh*t if all goes well, you'll only hear complaints :p

Yeah but this time I didn't even hear any complaints after the DNS typo and outcry.u13.net didn't work (amongst some other things)

Going forwards please tell me if you have any issues at all.  everyone waits for everyone else to report issues and it is extremely frustrating for me.

Forgive me for saying, FLAB. But if you yourself would react a bit more on other reports such as in the panel of u13, pm's or IRC, then maybe others might get a bit more eager to report.
I'm sure I've stated before that I understand this isn't your full-time job, but a bit more communication from your side would be appreciated.

... and yes I'll pay soon ;)

Don't forget that if flab isn't immediately reachable, I might prove useful in solving whatever issue you may have. I'm sure you know that by now, JFK.

Yes I do and thank you, jrgp :)
I would go as far that the service of u13 improved much since FLAB decided to parter up with you. So for all clarity to everyone u13 rentals ain't that bad, didn't mean to leave that impression or start a discussion about it :p
