I can't quite tell if the title of this thread is "Amigawd I'm so special" or "Phased plasma troll in the forty watt range". Probably something in between.

If you can't enjoy this music, you just haven't been to the right parties...
But yeah, something in between ;)

Hah! I can't help agreeing with this title. :(
There are other worlds than these

Musically my position is "whatever floats your boat", as long as you don't pretend it's something its not. The title pretty much shows you why he's so into it, is what I was trying to say.

haha, gotta love how this thread turned into an IDM discussion. Cant be without dropping my two cents:
Evol Intent - I'm Happy Your Grave is Next to Mine
The Flashbulb - Black Lawn Finale
IDM is kickass too, but I really do wonder when it became an IDM discussion ;o

Isn't Vegas just 'SoundForge-with-video'? Afaik it's is mostly suited for editing audio for videos.
You can save your projects as mp3 in Sony Vegas. And it's not really that problematic music producing tool.
Only thing that sucks is the lack of audio effects, but that problem is overruled by FL being around.
For example lyrics and sounds you want to cut are very easy to put in place with Vegas.

This might be a stupid question but have you tried reason or some other programs? I personally find reason a lot more powerful than FL for example, plus you would not have to use two programs.

Or do you use vegas on purpose to get a kind of.... more "raw" sound?
I eat EFCs for breakfast (with a lot of ketchup ...)

I've tried Reason and gave up on it right away lol. Also tried a software called Cubase, but after all I just
don't feel like learning another new software if with this current combination I can come up with stuff I'm satisfied with.

I use vegas simply, because there you can sort out and cut everything freely/manually (like shown here), you don't have to f**k around with bpm
automations (if you want different rythms) and stuff like in FL for example. Also, you can see the sound waves which makes things easy for
unorganized lyrics and other seperated samples.

The program is as only as good as the producer my friend.

The "shittiest" music I've ever listened to is industrial rock...
But it's not that shitty...

This is nice, we talk about music producing AND I can dump some filthy music here ;)

The program is as only as good as the producer my friend.

Very true, but that doesn't mean that a good producer can perform equally using any program. There are many methods to create music and sound and I think 'the best method' is something personal. Each DAW is strong or weak in certain methods.

Like:
If you're using 'recorded' tracks such as your vocals or guitar, you'll probably be better off with Cubase or maybe Vegas then with Reason.
If you're looking for an easy way to handle millions different VST's then FruityLoops would be a good choice I guess.
Reason's strenght is that it truly simulates hardware. IMO the main advantage of 'fake-hardware' (vs VST's) is that it's way easier to do patching tricks, like using the side-chain of the compressor or making feedback loops (yay).
And atm I use Renoise Demo, but I just love trackers.
