By far one of THE MOST strangest and compelling mods ever introduced to soldat...mmm.. nice work sky, i like the weapons and all but, it does'nt feel much like jets when you almost certainly feel like a soldier still :\

No offense, but IMHO the way you're doing it won't make a real "plane mod". Mainly because of the way movement works.
Forget about jets. They'll never let you move like an actual plane. Try using weapons with negative recoil instead. Since there are whole 14 weapons - you could have 14 different planes with different speed and acceleration.

Shooting: If weapons are used for movement - unfortunately you won't be able to shoot. However you could do it with script commands instead (like /fire or /missile).
Of course it won't be as good as if you had them as actual weapons, but in this case it's more important to have a proper movement system. Besides, scripts can allow things that normal weapons can't do (homing missiles for example).


Right now - it's sure is a really interesting and original mod but when it comes to gameplay - it's a big disappointment that you can't actually fly like a plane. :/ However as a simple (not scripted) mods go - this one sure is something. It has great potential, so if you want - you can take it further and make something that not only looks, but also plays similar to Crimson Glory.

He has my buttocks for (ripping stuff from other) scripts for weapons.

You could do infini-jet maps (big huge sky, a few landable platforms, deadly ground, tw maps are like made for that, just some minor modding).

If op agrees i can try to "improve" the mod.

Also, you missed a few things to be transparent.

How about having 2 types of air vehicles:

Planes
~ movement: weapons with negative recoil
~ shooting: script commands

Helicopters
~ movement: normal movement with jets
~ shooting: normal shooting with weapons that aren't used by planes

Only tricky part would be making them look as actual planes and helicopters. :S Although.. there are hovering planes, so perhaps you could get away with just planes.

Map idea sounds awesome. I don't think there's a need for repair tools though. A landing platform with regen polys should be enough.
As for weapons - you'd have to switch between thrusters and weapons, so you won't be able to shoot and move at the same time. That would be annoying. :/

Well my main idea was to make each weapon a plane, but it would cause problems with teams and when dropping the weapon.
I know there are a bunch of things to improve, but I wanted to show it to the community.

Helicopters were another idea in my head, and the mix of them would be good, but how to shoot and be faster? I didn't had any idea for that.

On hairstyles I was about to make emblems for the planes and so.

Please more ideas will be wellcome, thanks for your replies


EDIT:
On maps I was thinking of 2 air carriers on the sea with clouds and so to hide.
Infinite jets and the ground of the carriers would be ice and at the end a ramp (So you can 'take off' with a bit of speed)

Thats exactly what i wanted to explain to you sky.


Heres another idea though, im not sure it may work, but maybe try gostek modding the ENTIRE soldier to look like an aircraft?

heres how it works- Mod the soldier such that he LOOKS like an aircraft while in prone position.
And, edit all animations, to show the exact same pose for all movements. That way when the player runs/walks it looks as if hes actually 'flying'.
On the downside, weapons will be a problem, since they're mainly gonna be used for propulsion.(as what loner suggested)


Not sure if it works, but its just an idea.


And on the server scripts thing, Being an offline player, and finding workable servers with custom scripts these days are just too rare. So this would not appeal too much to the online-ers since most of them would rather play the normal ones.



Side note- The grenades which behaves like normal frag grenades can be solved, by decreasing speed such that when thrown, they're launched like misslies- could be used as another form of attacking, while using the 'propulsion guns'

Adding to above ^ side not grenade thing, the 'propulsion' guns can be gfx edited to take on the form of an aircraft. So For example

Mp5- Mig 29
Ak74- Su 37
Steyr- F15
Minimi- F117

and etc.

Now if only there was a function that you could carry as many 'grenades'(missles) as you want.

Well that idea of grenades as main weapons looks nice... But maybe I can make any secondary as plopulsion but i need help, and then if you change fast you can go fast and fire your weapons

It looks cool. I think removing all of the gostek is enoug. i doubt there is even a need to mark it in the first place, since the aircraft is already there. Removing ranny effect would be good too. you would'nt want to see a floating red body behind the mig when injured XD

Also, Your after-burner self dmg can be solved. Use STM's Superman chainsaw mod.

Or, try this. it was a lil fun thing i was doing quite a while back

The chainsaw propulsion thing for forward movement, while your jet boots as vertical movement.

I could try to do 1 or 2 test anims, but it is hard as hell to mod each one of them.
I'd need a template how should they look like, im thinking for a nade throw and knife stab anim, they should be easy.

I added a bit of blur but yes I resized them because I had no idea what to do

About the other comments:
VTol thing: No just no... Harriers can do that and F16 also I think or the Osprey.
The problem of not having gosteks is that if I add secondaries when using them the plane will be vertical (idk if you undestand) but well at least I can make them bigger.
I will use chainsaw plopulsion, I like the idea.

And croat or scout if you are helping me on the anims would be great that if you make any send it to me, I would like to check :P and thanks guys for helping.

Scout I tested the chainsaw and holly s**t thats fun lol.
I think it should go a bit slower I'm going to change it a bit if you don't care.
The problem is that you cannot have a main weapon just because you will have a plane in your back... but maybe we could say that thats because you should use jets to go higher (LOL)

actually the chainsaw thing was'nt made by me. it was based on STM's superman chainsaw mod; i just made a few tweaks to it. So yeah, all credit goes to him :P

Yeah... But well I think that gosteks should be the planes, because if not will be a bit strange to have a plane in the back and another one shoting.

I finally found enough time to test this mod and there are a few things that are bugging me  bit.

1) Who is my enemy, who is my friend? I needed to use the minimap to know who was who.
2) Why is the chainsaw so weak? I tested the saw with 20 zombies that were equipped with the saw and they got K:D of 2:123 or something. I tried to just boost with it but it always killed me somewhen.
3) FN Minimi is almost exactly the same as the Deagles. Why is that so?

You are right.
I Changed the gosteks, now the team1 is darker and bit more different, I'll update ASAP
The chainsaw just kills you, but that has been changed now you can boost perfectly
On the new version the FN Minimi has a faster fire rate but stills having the startup

Imadiately recalled me my old bloody air mod. Your one looks way better. I remember in my there were engines as weapons so there were no posibility to fly and shoot at same time but in your mod it's posible. It'd be good to make some map with icy take off zones and a lot of place to fight.

I've got an idea, why not mix the chopper and normal plane properties and make Hydras instead of each type of aircraft on it's own?
That way it'll also be easier to land/heal/etc...
So the take off and landing would be the players' choice, be it vertically or horizontally.
How about it?
(Hydras are jet fighters built around the basis of maneuverable thrusters)

The name is not Hydra is Harrier (yes the one from GTA) and F16 can do that too but that what you say is more complex, and making each weapon a plane means having problems on the weapon position and when having it on the back, and when locating other team players.

I downloaded the new version and tested it. Still there are things about the weapon mod that are bugging me since some of the weapons are very unbalanced.

The deagles need more speed. I know that it always shoots 2 bullets but imo the law should be the only short range explosive weapon even if the deagles can be fired anywhere.

HK is fine. Nice for spraying and stuff.

AK is fine, too.

Steyr is fine also.

The spas  is a 1-Hit-Killer with a short reload time and high accuracy. The high start up time doesn´t balance the high speed and damage of it, though, and that is why it is so overpowered. Maybe lower the speed?

I can´t say much about the ruger replacement since I wasn´t able to test it yet. Maybe I will share my opinion about it with you when I got enough time for testing it.

M79 is just perfect. Bombing is so much fun on opened maps like B2B and in DM and TM it is gamebreaking with its own strategies.

Barret needs more ammunition, like 5 or 6.

FN Minimi is fine.

I can´t tell you how much I love your minigun replacement. If this minigun would be included in normal Soldat I would never stop playing it. However, it is kind of useless on maps like Lagrange (these "sidescroller"-maps).

It is kinda hard to get used to the grenades, I think you could lower the speed at least a bit. Grenades with high speed don´t kill much by the way unless you place them on the ground but since those grenades in your mod are that fast it is kinda impossible to place the grenade without an enemy seeing it bounce up.

The pistol needs lower damage. Most other weapons are slower and need better aim than the pistol.

Knife should only get higher damage or it will be a very unattractive weapon. Imagine you throw it and then try to find the knife that may be 500 metres away. Also you can´t really aim with it.

The saw makes you too fast. I don´t need any other weapon if I am able to be the capping beast.

The law needs higher speed. You get very vulnerable when you are on the ground so you need a good "argument" for the player to go there.

The flamer has no modded graphics. If I pick up a flame god kit I can see the flamer.

Didn´t test the bow yet.


@Download issue: Just use the forum attachment maybe? If the mediafire link is broken it will still be available.

@Map idea: I think that is a nice idea. I will start creating that map. Do you want nice visuals or good FPS :P

DE's are replaced by Hellfires a Air-to-Ground weapon used to attack armoured vehicles, so thats why it should be kind 'droped' but yes I'll add a bit more speed.

Spas is just a problem in all aspects, I cannot change the reload time so I added startup, I will make it slower

I think barret is nice, but well if you say so...

To use minigun you need to fly high and have infite jets, because like that is funnier

Maybe saw is to fast yes...

And I never knew what to do with law so, yeah why not.

I will delete flamer graphics and upload on the forum (if it is not too big)

You could for example change the law to some repair kit that will heal you over time and any other guy, too. You would have bullet style flames, speed 5 and damage would be negative. Flamer could be the ultimate repair station then. You get invincible for 10 seconds and in this time you are able to support your team members with healing flames (keep sake of healing enemies) or add more speed to it and lower the damage.

The name is not Hydra is Harrier (yes the one from GTA) and F16 can do that too

The F-16 does NOT have VTOL ability. Currently the only two jet fighter aircraft in service that are VTOL capable are the Harrier and the Yak-38. The F-35B can land vertically but not take off vertically.

its quite disappointing to see not many jets are around with VTOL capabilities, even with our current stage of technology.

Thats it F35! my fault... Its just because I use it on ArmA2 :P

Scout, no really need for that... I mean the mod stills being funny, but yes I will make a Sci-Fi version or maybe one for dogfights with only 2 weapons or 1

I tryed uploading on Box.net but it never finished, so I added a 4Shared mirror

There is gfx for the weapon clips on some weapons. I guess you just had some typos or stuff (HK for example).

Very nice and original mod, however new gostek consisting only of head is kinda small and makes it hart to aim and also confuses a bit. How about adding plane bitmaps as other body parts to make it look like a squadron? I tired to replace "klata":

Yeah Would be awesome... just that the other plane in the squadron won't face the positions so maybe it will be better to replace the arms or the hands, you just had an awesome idea

Why not have a negative gravity server (as long as scripting is on the table)?
Your players automatically gain altitude, and use jets to travel down. You could have invisible catch 'platforms' at various altitudes or locations (inside clouds, for example). The problem is that bullets, etc, will drop upwards, meaning bombs won't really work. High-speed machineguns and missiles, though...
I'm just imagining, players spawn inside this aircraft carrier, move to a vertical door that takes them to the surface, where an only-players-collide poly (or maybe a thin ice) holds them down to the deck. They slide along the underside of this poly to the edge of the carrier, and then whoosh, up they go!
Gravity doesn't have to be high (negative high, that is), just present so that jets will have an effect.

PS, sorry I'm a bit late and congratz on a neat, well-executed mod.

Well, it's certainly possible. My last clan had an adjustable-gravity server for a while. Making maps that take full advantage of an alternate-gravity server is the hard part, as you can't test in single player.
