First Impression of Soldat
« on: February 07, 2010, 08:42:31 pm »
It's a good thing I started playing Snipe & Slice/trenchwars before getting into regular mode, because I wouldn't be able stand how difficult it is for me to kill a person in regular mode. The result:

  • pout for maybe a couple of minutes.
  • uninstall Soldat and never play it again.
  • spread the news of how horrible Soldat is.

I've been playing in gathers lately, and it has been an excruciatingly painful experience to sit through 30 minutes of watching myself get slaughtered by means I can't even begin to comprehend. That's why I prefer realistic mode; trenchwars.

So, forums, what was your first impression of Soldat?

Ahaha, you sir are the perfect whiner.

cant win, cant get better, so just give up. Soldat doesn't need people like you anyway.

I'm very open minded when it comes to giving games a try.  Soldat looked interesting and I read several positive reviews about it.

It was very difficult at first since there is no tutorial of some sort.  You're put right into the action and will frequently die during the first time of playing it.  I continued playing it since I was captivated by the unique visual style and the ability to jet around the map.  Two things I've never seen or played in a game before, at least in this manner.

The graphics may not be the best, nor is it the most stable game avaliable.  But the gameplay is fast-paced, and extremely satisfying.  It was frustrating to play at first, but now I've come to love it.

Actually, I've been playing regular mode every now and then for the past year or so, so I haven't really given up. It was just a first impression, and rarely do I ever whine, especially in-game. I keep all of the negative comments to myself.

I read about Soldat in GameInformer's magazine of the "top ten games you've never heard of", so I gave it a try and found it immensely fun. My very first match was in offline deathmatch mode on Airpirates with a bot called Poncho.

My first impression was that I didn't care for the visuals--the default maps just added to the great gameplay value it has, what with the "Did you see that?" moments. So yeah, killing stuff was fun.

Same here. I was definitely not expecting body parts to fly everywhere. I still crack up in moments like those.

My first impression was.... Really good design on default maps and the amazing physics. Even if at first i only played with bots for like 6 monts until i downloaded a newer version(1.2) that allowed me to play online. But the gameplay was so great that i played for hours every day with these lame bots, i came home at 2pm and i played soldat until 10-12 pm(without eating, drinking or making my homework :P ) . I can't really explain exactly what impression i had but guess mostly because of the physics ;)

he doesn't whine at all tho.

godefroy. basic things you would want to follow is.YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GO MAIN ROUT, and only 1 take alt rout - which you should avoid, and 2 takes the main rout. if you find it difficult to kill anything, or difficult to aim (becuase of no recoil), then pick Minimi, as it's ridiculously easy and frivolously strong.

I ussualy played realistic+surival before, but it was so boring. so I watched some soldat movies, like: "The Blade" and then went ahead and downloaded sctfl 12 finals demos and watched. by doing this I was motivated enough to be prepared to get slaughtered in gathers :p. I did also use Minimi alot (1.4.2), as it was already in that version overpowered.

Mine was "holy hell this awesome game was on page 4 of the google search results?!?! Man me finding it was lucky."

And that was in 2004, and some times I get scared of me not finding soldat.

i am used to realistic too, since the death of the 1.2.1, i never played normal anymore, but sometimes i have some fun playing normal pubs, even without recoil, i set the aim up and back to head, playing Deagles, i got totally used to recoil, i wish someday ppl set recoil to normal WM too.

I can hardly remember how I started Soldat. :S I only remember that a friend told me about it and that it's a good game, so I tried it.

First thing I loved about it was the fact that it was 2D. I was getting sick of all the 3D shooters that offered almost nothing new. Soldat was different from both 3D shooters and even 2D platformers - it was a whole new definition of "fun" that I've never seen before.
I also liked the fact that you could just run it, quickly join a game and leave just as fast, without long loading times (yeah, my computer wasn't great at that time.. and it still isn't) so I often chose Soldat over other more complex games.

You're not alone. The only other fps game I have is Counter-Strike.

Lol, I was just joking.

Uh, I think I found soldat on GS's website. It looked interesting and it was free so I thought, why not? Funny thing though: Me, being retareded, downloaded 1.2 while everyone was play 1.3. Eventually, I figured out I had the wrong version, but 1.2 made a good first impression on me.
