Problem with SAVA
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:01:10 am »
ok so i make a svg image using inkscape, but when i go to run it through SAVA i get 0 polys created, or some of the polys created in really odd shapes and the rest are "self crossing"

i do not understand why that is so

i am using closed bezier paths and at no point do any of the shapes cross over, intercept or does the path itself overlap

another problem i am having is that it gets stuck at 12 of whatever and just sits there

help plz

i was not sure where to put this so plz dont flame me

1. Sava always creates weird polygon structure, so there is no so much to do about it.
2. Make sure all your shapes are closed and don't self-cross.
3. Also i sugest to save SVG as "plain SVG" not "Inkscape SVG" which is default.
4. Attach your map or at least some screeenshots.

Did you get a link to SAVA's topic just yesterday?

im getting 0 polys created still

here is the svg file zipped

results are the same if the type is a plain SVG

No wander that you are getting 0 polygons - it seems that you just tried to import some raster image into Inkscape and convert svg into PMS with SAVA...
There is no easy magical way to convert raster images into vector, you'll need to do this manually. And also there is no easy magical way to convert vector images into PMS, you'll always need to correct or completely rebuild polygon structure generated by SAVA.
I suggest to drop your experiments with SAVA/Laygen and make some normal maps instead - it will be much more productive...

yes but with more than 1180 polygons needed...?

what programs can i use to do this, to first convert raster to vector, then vector to svg then svg to pms

in other words how can i change the vector to svg so it can be converted

i know theres a way, there has to be

SVG are vectors (Scalable Vector Graphics).

If you really have no idea how to convert raster to vector, you may use Vector Magic. Be aware that vectors traced automatically aren't as good as done manually, but the result may be enough for you.

How do i do it "manually"

From: February 19, 2010, 08:20:12 pm
nvm i just installed adobe ilustrator and another problem i have come accross is

some polys are fake (cant select, can only select vertices to show the shape, player falls right through it)

here is the pms and screenshot as well as the svg file, zipped for your convenience (forum wont let me upload the svg or pms file so i may as well just zip all 3)

on the screenshot, the red one is the one that players fall right through and none of the polys in that red shape are selectable in polyworks, green is fine
