Chile earthquake
« on: February 27, 2010, 09:16:40 am »
Just heard Chile got hit with an 8.8 quake followed by some serious aftershocks as high as 6.9. A tsunami wave is heading out from the area. Tsunami warnings havr been issued to Hawaii New Zealand Australia and a few other countires.

The south american plate was locked into the nazca plate. Because of the nazca plate being oceanic it was subducting and bending the south american plate. The south american plate flipping up caused the wave.

The qauke was felt as far away as Argentina.

Disscuss?

What´s to discuss here? Whether we should continue sending money to them? Well. I am a proud member of my schools pupils council and we did a lot of things to get money for Haiti, like selling cakes, organising school parties and stuff. We got around 600€ for Haiti and we think that´s quit a lot for us but even more for them.

But never I would go as far as one of my teachers who asked our twinned school in Armenia for money for Haiti ... he needs to be crazy or something. They would be happy if they had real homes, schooles and sanitation.

I take it you're not overly familiar with the region.
