Bad Company 2 VS Modern Warfare 2
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:18:00 am »
So, I got my long since reserved copy of Bad Company 2. So... First, my thoughts on this game. I like it. A lot. The game play is much smoother then the first Bad Company. The controls have been change and have made combat much... I dont know. Its just better. So i must compare my two favorite shooters of the year (or recent past). Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Let me start by saying i really like them both. But honestly. I like Bad company 2 more. The only thing i would trade off is the Sniper Rifle use. I love it in MW2. So yea. Post your thoughts.

I have played both games you mentioned and I have to admit choosing one of them would be really hard.

Let's start off MW2.
I liked it although there are a few things that kept pissing me off, such as the health regeneration system, I mean OH GOD I get shot by a rifle burst, I just sit down and gain my HP back, seriously? I know it's a action fps not a war simulator (like operation flashpoint, the first one) but DUDE, there should be at least an option to play with the good old medkits. I'd also add some multiplayer map bugs, sometimes bullets just can't go through really ridiculous obstacles, like plants on one map that I can't remember. Also a con from me would be the reloading system, you reload bullets! not magazines, I always hated that in FPS games but got used to it, still sometimes it makes me think about how would you carry 150 clips with you (150 cause you can reload every bullet fired, assuming you fire one -> reload -> fire etc.). AND YES I KNOW, it's an action game and it COULD ruin multiplayer experience, I'm just saying what's odd, that's it. Now let's talk about positives - great storyline and graphics, well, nowadays graphics are not a problem. I also liked the voice acting and weapon sounds and their models, sounds were almost real which is a big plus of the game, missions were clever, cutscenes too. I'd set my fav moment to the EMP blast. The second one would be the amazing view from the cliff in the last missions. The multiplayer - as in all COD games, is entertaining and definately challenging at most of the points. I'd give the game a 9/10 (just because I'd skip my realism nerdiness as it's just an action game not a war simulator)

Bad Company 2
Cons first, I know that most of the players really like the destroyable environment, but at some points it's hilariously ridiculous, for example, I've managed to shoot off half of a brick pillar with two 5.56 rounds, cool eh?! Don't think so. Other than that it's really good to have the opportunity to blow a wall WITH the enemy behind it than rather circling around the building and getting owned. More cons: health system! Same as in CODMW2 as far as I can tell, I haven't played it much though. That'd be it for the cons, now the positives: Great visuals, destroyable environment great in some spots, vehicles definately put a new perspective to the multiplayer as in every game of the famous Battlefield series, but me just being a realism nerd hating it for the drive-and-shoot system. "LET'S DRIVE A TANK AND ROTATE IT'S TURRET AND SHOOT AT THE SAME TIME FK YEAH!!1!". Great visuals, oh wait I've said that already... great battlefield gameplay was only minorly changed due to the environment that can be wrecked. Competitive multiplayer online scenarios and the community add a great feel to playing online, but! I still fancy the singleplayer story more, not that I'm a complete nub at playing it multiplayer, I just always fancied singleplayer because obviously developers had to put way more effort in it and I love seeing how it turned out. The sounds are pretty decent, some could be of course improved by modding the game. I'd give it a final of 9/10 (same as mw2).

I loved both games, I'd just get mutated to have two heads and four hands, and play them both on two pcs at the same time. They're equal, both aren't perfect and both will make the user feel entertained. I'd get Bad Company 2 focusing on multiplayer and CODMW2 for singleplayer.

MW2 had a more enjoyable singplayer that was higher quality.

Bad Company 2's multiplayer is far more addicting.

You got to admit though that Bad Company 2 is a large inprovement over the first Bad company. A lot of things have been made much better. Oh... The Spas 12s is awesome for booting in doors and blasting people that are close. fun stuff!

I would go for Bad Company 2, CoD is ok but too fast, I preffer a bit more tactical games, maybe BC2 will not be as tactical as they hope, but that's why I have ArmA2...
And of course destructable buildings look funny

The fact that you can almost completely destroy a building down to the foundation is quite awesome. I got killed by falling buildings a couple times. lol

BC2 is awesome. Battlefield 3 will kick the ass of BC2 though.
I prefer the battlefield series over CoD because of the teamplay and tactics it requires.
The squad system, big open maps, different classes with their own strenghts and weaknesses, vehicles and destructible terrain.

Also, I would never touch MW2 for it's lack of dedicated servers. Can't beat clan play.

I play neither of them and from outside I see no difference between these
two or any other usa-fckyeah fps games. All I can do is troll ignorantly how these
games resemble each other even though they claim to be different everytime.

Wow, What a buzz kill. I like video games. Shooters mostly. Which both of these are. Good ones in fact. The farther i get into BC2 the more i like it. I am half done with it. So having already beaten MW2 i will wait to really judge the two. Now if i could just finish R6V2. Its crazy fun. I am almost done with it. WOOT WOOT!

This game looks great, and it's a serious contender for online FPS king, as that currently belongs to MW2. I'll put up an overview of the more popular FPSes being played right now.

MW2 has some problems despite being addictive. Too many campers. The maps are practically designed for it! I'm looking at you, Favela and Derail. The fast-paced, quick death type of gameplay will sometimes get you frustrated, and then the noob with a grenade launcher sitting in the corner who always kills you just makes it worse. Death feels cheap and sometimes you'll wonder why the dude didn't go down. Perks, customizable weapons... it's all good in terms of having a unique class but it ruins the game sometimes. Marathon/Lightweight/Commando with a tactical knife on a handgun is so lame. There's also little emphasis on team support; despite having mostly team-based game modes, you can run around like Rambo and still get a good score. It's over hyped for sure. Doesn't mean it's not a good game, it's just not as good as people make it out to be.

Killzone 2 has 32 player matches, fully featured awesome clan support (you bet valor, a clan currency, on matches and organize or join tournaments in-game), classes/experience points/unlockables, streamed game modes (runs right into the next game mode without loading if it's on the playlist), you can create 4 person squads within your team, and you can host custom matches. You pick games from a server list; no matchmaking here. It also has some of the best graphics of any console game, next to Uncharted 2. Unfortunately, the ISA always spawn at one side and the Helghast at the other, which means spawn killing is prevalent and ruins some games. The Tactician class makes up for this, but each team can only have 2 unique (other than default) spawn points at any time. Its response is slightly sluggish compared to other FPSs, with less focus on ADS. Loading times are pretty long too. It's still got millions of people playing it after a year, though.

MAG. Enormous battles (256 total, 128 each side, further broken down from there) with a big emphasis on teamwork and communication. Don't have it, don't really know how good it is.

Any 360-exclusive online FPSes besides Halo? I'm not familiar with it.

I haven't played BC2 (I only tried the demo of BC1) but it's getting good reviews so far and it looks promising. Wish I had the money for all of these games... :(

Bad Company 2 has a better story line than MW2 but the variety of weapons are kinda low. I dont know how the multiplayer is but for MW2, I hate those douchebags who run up to you with commando and knife you. That's kind stupid. Anyways back to the point. MW2 Has a better variety of weapons, BC2 has a better SP story line. BC2 seems more futuristic though, like 20-30 years later?

It might have fewer weapons but they seem to be more usefull. In the first bad company you only needed a couple of guns. Though i will admit i could beat BC2 with just a sniper rifle and some sort of assault rifle. Though i have to say the Spas12s is a lot of fun up close. ;)

If I had the cash I would buy this game (as well as God of War 3 on the 16th! ;_;). Kotaku's review said you should judge this game by its cover because apparently that's all you need. It has the Frostbite engine for destruction (not as detailed as RF:G's Geomod, but still good) and an addictive online mode. Inevitable comparisons to MW2 abound, but with 4 person squads, vehicles, and 32-player online matches, the focus on teamwork is there. Battlefield has always done its own thing, and I'm fairly certain it's been around before Call of Duty, so comparing it doesn't do much for you. Apparently getting kills online is satisfying because the sound effects are loud and clear with polished gun models. That's always something that appeals to me.

Really? I thought i remember Call Of Duty on the PS1. Maby i am mistaken. Or i could be thinking of Medal Of Honor. Not sure. But needless to say... Both of these games rock. Very much looking forward to FF13 and God Of War 3.

Yeah, the first Medal of Honor was back in... 1999 on the PS1. First Battlefield was in 2002, and the first Call of Duty was in 2003. Even earlier than that there were games like Doom, Quake, and Unreal.

I like video games too, fps shooters only* infact. Unreals, Quakes and freeware games like Warsow, Nexuiz and Tremulous mostly.
I'm just not into that realistic modern warfare stuff, it's all same crap we've seen in CS past many generations and only thing they can improve
now under this gategory and actually which nowadays is the only objective is graphics, effects and alot unnecessary 'realistic' assholicking.

*I do like soldat and some nintendo classics too.
