the interesting thread of the month
« on: March 23, 2010, 06:55:28 pm »
since panzer was bitching and I'm quite drunk. here ya go.

I'm worth more than this

getting through high school without much effort, not finding my place in collage/university, as a late bloomer finding what I can live with a year or two late, I still feel that I'm capable of more. Of something great.

That I'm in possesion of some great talent that's useful for me, for the people around me, and ultimately, once toned properly, for the whole of the human race.

It's a lingering feeling which I get when talking with others. It's not arrogance, I use it to connect - because others have it too. Different areas, different people, different talents. Our distance isn't the calling, it's the naivety. Or some shit like that.

Come on. You can probably relate. Post it here.

The time has not yet come for this. The public internet is supposed to be impersonal?

The system of education that I have so far encountered and lived through bears a lot of similarities to a prison system. Fear of failure and getting bad grades. Getting good grades is prioritized and individuality, imagination are suppressed. Confinement, disapproval of truancy (freedom?) result in punishment; there is fear of punishment. The whole damn system is based on fear, the priorities are WRONG and the children that finish school end up as helpless idiots rather than the opposite of those. This is supposed to be common knowledge anyway, at least over here, where the system is strict.
As for what concerns strange talents and whatnot: frequently I've noticed that I can default lamp posts and some other types of electronics unconsciously. Would have been regarded as coincidence, if the lamps weren't turning off when I came in range and, after walking away, switch back on again.

Please excuse the following arrogance, but Demonic's post has inspired me to speak very openly about how I view myself.  As an additional disclaimer, please realize that I don't think I have any more intrinsic value than any other human just because I have certain qualities.

To begin with, I'm smarter than almost everyone I come into contact with.  I catch on to new concepts quickly, I can absorb information without taking notes, I'm more aware than others, I test well, I'm better with words (when I want to be), and all in all, I leave everyone in the dust when it comes to any sort of test of intelligence.  It's something that I've become less aware of since entering a reasonably prestigious college (since I'm surrounded by other people who are similarly smarter than their peers), but drop me into the real world again and the difference becomes pretty clear.

I find that I classify myself as an underachiever (and it's hard to not be one when you have the potential that I do), yet I realize that I've consistently held good jobs since high school, and sometimes two at once.  For example, while interning at a software company, I also manage to tutor other students.  I know I'm good at both because I've received a phenomenal offer from the former (I'll be starting out with a better salary and benefits package than my mom who has been working for 30 years), and I've had people request and recommend me when it comes to the latter.  Several of my tutees have suggested that I go into teaching because of how well I can convey concepts in a manner that's easy to learn.

I'm a significantly nicer person than most everyone I've met; I'm polite, good-natured, don't like talking poorly about others, don't use crude language, am easy to get along with, etc. etc. etc.  It's honestly reached the point where I'd be surprised if people DON'T like me (because it just doesn't happen).  Furthermore, I've been so successful in my life that it's no longer a question of if I'll get the things I want, but when.  I have a car, a college education, a career, and plenty of hobbies and interests to keep me intellectually and physically active.  I want to be a respected writer, artist, and musician, and I see no reason why I can't achieve any of those.  I know I'm going to get my black belt in judo in a few years.  The word "impossible" means nothing to me when it comes to my goals.

The only major thing I haven't done yet is finding a girlfriend, marrying her, and starting a family.  I'm going to do that too, and it's another one of those things that I have no worries about.  There's no doubt in my mind that I can get any girl I want; the only barrier thus far has been a lack of availability (there aren't more than five girls in the entire computer engineering and software engineering classes, and you can probably guess how desirable those are).  Once I graduate college and get more involved in church, I'll find a nice girl there and my last major goal will have been achieved.

In short, I live a good life and I see no reason for that to stop.

I could get through high school on nothing until the 11th grade. Now I have no idea how to do work at home. I'm failing bad brotatoes. Looks like I'm still in high school next year.

Feels bad.

Happens to me all the time. Suggesting I'm doing this unconsciously however is pseudo-science bulls**t. It's chance.

I use bad puns a lot.

I should be pun-ished.

Hahaha.

There's a petition on the Internet that asks me to go to a year 12 Ball. 130 people signed it.

I hate s**ts so passionately that I insult them on the spot.

I've been in 7 fights in my life and received a fair amount of biff, but given more back.

I've never been drunk.

I dont like coffee.

I hate hot weather.

I've been dumped 5 times, but never rejected.

I hate the Internet.

Who cares?

Well if it's chance then luck is a skill of mine.
Same lamp post, each time, same range, 100% chance of light source deactivation. My theory would be that thoughts, which travel faster than anything ever, somehow influence the photons within a certain range around you.

Thoughts travel at the speed of electrical impulses, which is anything but "faster than anything ever."

Did you mean to suggest quantum pairing interactions here?

the speed of thoughts wouldn't be relevant and proof would be provided in case you were actually worth my time. Since you're clearly not, this is going to go nowhere. So let's leave it at that.

I went surfing today. That's all I really need to be happy.

Demonic: you're a future politician.

Horve: many people have that experience with lamp posts. When sodium lamps reach the end of their lifespan, they begin a process called "cycling" in which they repeatedly blink out and then turn back on. There is a good chance that anyone will happen to be passing by at the correct moment and have this happen to them on a variety of lamp posts. If it happened on every lamp as you walked down the street, then you may have mysterious superpowers over lamps. Otherwise, you're normal.

Aha! I always thought they were motion-sensitive or something (though I admit that turning off when something went past seemed counter-intuitive).

Here's a little something I prepared earlier:

All I've ever wanted is to fit in, be accepted, be loved, grow into a decent man. All I've managed to do is be singled out, shunned, dumped and become a lonely little boy. This is not self pity, not a cry for help... this is a lonely man NOT afraid to admit that he'd rather die alone than be subjected to the worlds cruel heartless opinions...
Just another soul to burn.

Implications. What's next, Homeopathy?

Good to know.

I'm not enforcing my theories on you. The theory was meant as an alternative to the general chance explanation, which is becoming increasingly ludicrous, as the process repeats each and every time there is the presence of me. Since I can contemplate the lamp from here, I see that it is not blinking, it is shining bright constantly. Don't make it seem like I need your approval or anything. What I think and do with my time is none of your concern and if I have some theories that you do not agree with, I can not provide any public services that could help you in any way. In stead, if you are so very annoyed by something, I suggest you kill yourself, ignore this, or find me and hunt me down get tortured and crippled for the rest of your miserable and worthless life just for the sake of science. The choice is yours. The lamp post conjures a lot of "what the f**k" emotions, at the very least, so remaining ignorant on this matter (by me, not you) would appear inconsistent and strange. If I find out that, indeed, the god damn lamp post is just f**king around, I would be satisfied and erase the memories of this encounter and move on to other things like eating, s**tting, sleeping, breeding.

tired of school hounding me = picking up where I left off = work = applying myself = tired of doing, which all somehow translates to being tired of living with females aka family. Almost 18.. almost graduated.. must, have, patience...
