well that are the things i prefer playing there currently



would be nice if you could give me some advices or if some one would make this "map" a map ;)

Top route is pointless, because the flag is low and the main goal. The idea of this map is pretty interesting, but maybe it would be better, if the middle part wasn't so odd and plain. Try something more original, flag spawns in middle part is nice, though.

@scenery usage: Never use such a big amount of clouds in front of everyone. It's just distracting the player and doesn't look that nice.

This can't even be considered a playable map.

Try harder next time, turn off snap to grid, avoid 'blocks' and 'ramps', and most of all, avoid spamming sceneries that has semi-transparency as it will really hurt the map fps-wise.

darDar, ask yourself, "Why did I post this on a forums?" If the answer is, "Because I think this map is fun," look at the maps that come with Soldat. But, if the answer is "I don't know" then you've made progress.

might wanna put a Temple in the center
and leave the clouds it look great but for less fps problems i guess you can lessen the amount of clouds.

DarDar, I get that you are trying to be original, but let's face it.

If this map comes as a Default, it will end in about 1Min of playing.

Like pretty much people said, it will be kind of pointless.

I liked the "Temple" idea, and it seems awesome.

Plus, there are waaaaay too many spawns for each team. Low them to 2-4 MAX.

Try pushing the flags away from each other, and it may be better.

Why would anyone use the top route?
Because of the fact that everyone spawns so close to one-another, you will have to kill the same guy 3 times before you manage to score. Some weapons can't handle this, since they just don't pack enough firepower.
This will be deathmatch, there is not even going to be a ghost of tactics present (except for spawnkilling).
The team with 1 extra player will instantly dominate the opposite team.
The colours are random and look s**t, what drugs are you on?
This has nothing to do with an empire

I suggest you take this shit and shove it back up your ass. Next time use the toilet rather than the forums.

There has been few maps with a similar idea before. Expect they wasn't so plane as this one. And they didn't work out very well either.

As many guys have pointed out the top route is useless. That is true.
This looks like ctf_Snakebite. Since this is probably one of your first products I think I can use that as a example. You can get quite easily to over halfway at snakebite too. In other words the team who won the first buss get around 4 caps before other team has any change to do anything.

You probably think somthing like "ooh kouleman but you don't understant... thats the point of the map" well... my experience from similar products have been quite negative at past. I have few times tryed to plan one by myself, but trown them to trashbin shortly.

But anyway keep trying to develop a good map. I do not think this layout got much potential. Maybe you are able to find a better layout for this kind of idea.

And if you are disapointed and still want to test your map. I quess you can go to #soldat.mapping and ask kindly from zakath to put it to server so you can see why it probably fails.

Nowadays In reality, theres no way anyone is going to take this layout seriously.

And delete the clouds, if you can't make it look good, make it look boring but playable.

Actually recently read somewhere that the wrong kind of criticism [on something someone is serious about] is worse than saying nothing, or something like that. Although it is enjoyable to poke fun at certain things while speaking the truth, it's better all around to speak the truth in a helpful sort of way. Have I gone soft? As for Suo's remarks, he's done good with the sketch he made. I suggest you follow it to some degree.

Alright, go for it. You can modify it as you like, for example the bridges aren't mandatory.

And about Vig, I agree with zakath. I haven't seen a map made by him, that got something special in my eye. Yes he has done s**tload of maps for different gamemodes that I and majority don't play, so can't really say a word about the goodness of those maps. In case of ctf/inf maps there are mostly just awesome looks.

There are much more interesting maps/sketches made by others. I can have a memory with Smiluu's ctf_Haul, Blue Ninja's ctf_canti, a few maps by As de Espada or Wraithlike which ingenuity has been astonishing me much more than any vig's map.

Replace polyworks with the oldest map maker you can possibly find, wash out all your map-influences/shared experience
from your head, become a complete datanome-noob, dont even dream of help because thats impossible and there you

Do not forget to mention at this point that it was Zakath who created the gamemode MissionMod and MissionMod2, anyone who's scripting around here knows how much effort he must have put into the script and the creation of the very unique and pretty maps. In fact I think that this is far more worth of being called good than anything Horve has done. Besides that this totally surprised me:

#1: Which bridges are walkable? Which not? Top route seems to be useless, if you want to keep it that way give an advantage by putting some kit spawns there (maybe remove those from the bases or they will be attracting spawners).

Simply forget #2.

currently only the bridge over the blue polygon is walkable and i tested it out , the upper way isnt so useless as it seems to be cause you can do that in several ways and this can be a good tactic:


i will still add some kits there

Get rid of those ugly clouds now and do it the way the lazy people (including me) do it. Color the borders black and stretch some black blank.bmp to get a nice fade effect. There are two different coloring tools, learn how to use them. If you need some information about Polyworks just click at the questionmark sgn at the top right corner and you'll find everything you need.

about the second version of the map... you are really good in making useless paths. People would never go the lower route, and mostly upper route.
about the current version, make the trespassable bridge more transparent plz

maybe im kinda late here, because nobody has posted in this topic for about a month.
but i really like the layout of this map, it brings a new dimention to soldat,is very interesting and tactical.

darDar: are you still working on it? i think you should carry on with this as it has lots of potential for a good map.
Also, try to improve the visuals, remove the clouds, add some more scenery, and vary the shape of your polygons.

Add some blank.bmp's outside the whole map, like DarkCrusade said. This will make it much better to look at.

what about this instead.


this would make up rout main rout, and low rout defense. or make it 1 def "mid" (goes where the player ahead died) and then 1 for each rout, probably would be a very intense map. 3v3 might be hard, and 2v2 might be very slow.
if you swap the flags, it could be quit interessting.


swap the falgs and it could be like a fast paced hormone.

and like everyone has said, remove the clouds. I am guessing this is just a game play version. you'd need to move nades to flag position, health packs quite close to flag position, and maybe at the first flying polygon thingy on each base.
I am not sure how the medics works.... is the medics "owner" indicated by the closer spawn position or the flag position?

thanks for replying even if this thread isnot really up to date any longer cause im kinda busy currently.
Im not sure about the Medic Owner thing but i will try to use your ideas and test it out.
And to the Fog thing... I just made to have at least a bit graphics on that map. I tried to make it look like Guardian which i didnt really got :) .. but after removing the fog it simply looks sh**.

Phew, very lot of text here. Your map have got some attention :D . Aand as everybody have said, remove the clouds. This is more like ctf_cloud now. And make outside edges a little bit circular. You too could shade them black. Remove too some of those spawns and add medi- and grenade kits. (andandand) Make something colliders to outsidest islands and to downhills begin. That there aren't  -im-camping in spwan-with-sniper (i'm still not hating them) dudes. This is a fun Idea, and I think it works. But i'm not giving to you orders, just ideas. :) And I hope that you get your PC to work
