Recent bot attack
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:53:45 am »
You'll have seen the most recent bot attack by a bot called what123. I assume it's work noone really wants to do, and you can protect the forum easily by just adding some word check so these bots cannot register anymore.

Thoughts? Better ideas?

Probably a good idea to link to his profile: http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?action=profile;u=81092

Considering the amount this forum gets spammed (not at all) it's not really a big deal

OH NOEZ! BOT ATTACKS EVERYWHERE!

Calm down dc, that was a single bot in like, more than a few months.
Report the posts, say in the comment its a bot, the first mod/admin who sees it will solve the problem.
Common sense. ;(

If its such a big problem, nag mods/admins on irc/similar to do something about it.
And stop backseat modding.

Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

How's it backseat moderating to suggest to do something against it? I didn't know there was such protection against bots implemented yet.

Although I can't ban, I've muted the account.

I'm rather confused by the term "recent". There has been bots in here before, advertising such things. They're just usually when you're asleep. :)

Ill look into the anti bot methods in the registration functionality when I get home tomorrow.

This will not stand under my watch.

I've loved this community for many years and I give you my word on this. The bots will fall.

On topic: I didn't know people used bots on SF, I mean, it's only just about 3 dozens of active people here...

<3

Anyway, it isn't people using a bot or some sort of deliberate attack directed at the Soldat forum for a certain reason. It's a series of web crawler robots that periodically go to all websites, make accounts, and spam ads for their creators in the hope that certain people either by their products or go to their sites to they make some cash off of ad views.

might be an idea to delete his account and delete the posts.

Banned it.

And yeah, I think I just made it harder for botfags to register.
