Potential Website/Avatar gfx
« on: September 13, 2010, 01:45:16 pm »
Of course relating to this post, some of the stuff I've been screwing around with in gimp has been these graphics. Are they website quality? Maybe. Are they noob? Pretty much, if considering the process. The source files are just a star and circle. I did very little by hand.

For the star, I made a 3D star in Blender, got a 2D render of it, then messed with it in gimp. A fairly simple process after making it in Blender. If anyone wants the source files, I could upload the .blend and original .png's.

The ones aside from the first one look great, with the third possibly being the best.
There are other worlds than these

Third one looks quite nice, only reason the first one doesn't is because of the white background.

Since you're doing this as a serious attempt I'm gonna be more critical. Your spacings are bad. Shinier does not make for a better logo. Placeholder post, will discuss in more depth later.

Espy passing on some wisdom. Whadaya know. Thanks for [planning on] investing some time.

Until then, I crammed in some more time on Gimp and made a copy of this website. 'Course I'm assuming someone is vaguely interested:

Comparison

What would you think if one half of the semi-circle was faded? Like.. a smooth fade, coming from transparent and going to full color.

Nevermind. I realized what I was going to say was too pedantic. You're alright for your current purposes; you'll get there if you keep producing.

That said, #3 is probably the worst of the bunch. If you want to go with #2 just pay attention to the colors. Kuler tool can be useful if you want to explore color combinations.

Kewl tool mate.

Maybe I'll buy a book on basic graphic design or website design. I'm not going to go to college with this stuff anyway. Books seem to be running my life lately, exposing me to new ideas and experience.

As much as these things may bore you, an aspiring graphics artist must have a little audience, even if the audience is an unvisited webpage.

I find the second one most appealing. The first one is too smooth while the last one is plain boring..

Search Website gfx Prototype

Hm. Yes, the second one is nice.

But, I have an attachment to the third one... It's simplistic, yet it has a subtle "fling" with the star's shaded corners.

Another website prototype sort of deal. I really don't know how websites and graphics work, as in, the integration process. Maybe I'll research that. Huh. Derp.

Anyway, more screwing around. I'm jobless as of now, aka lots of time on my hands.

Of course these are rough ideas. "The Amazon Forest" is just a cheesy example "search"
