I'm on a budget, I'm looking for an 8 man unpassworded. Anyone know any good deals for a server? (us east)

I don't have a webpage for my rentals yet, but I have a handful of customers.Â I have spent my free time working with Elephant Hunter on the control panel for our servers rather than some website.Â

My servers are $1/slot public and $0.50/slot private, so for an 8 player public it would be $8.Â For servers 24 or more slots, the prices increase slightly to $1.50 and $0.75 per slot.Â

This includes :

Control panel access: http://rentals.u13.net/
FTP access to all of your files
FTP write access to the scripts folder and others upon request (maps, bots, etc)
The latest server version
Automatic server restarts in case of a crash (server restarts itself after 1-2 mins)
Live status script includes for your site (if you want it, free)
Timed advertisements/messages in your server
Automatic stats (built into the control panel)
Full control over your server: Start/Stop/Restart it whenever you want
An easy control panel interface for uploading and managing maps, rather than having to deal with FTP
The control panel is used to directly edit the admin list, maps list (rotation), and weapon mod.

Mine(and Chrisgbk's) is $160/month, flab's I think he said was $85 a month... it was under $100 though

I bought the forums/u13 server and its hard drives for ~$5000. my base montly plan was $70/month but I've had to add more bandwidth on since then as I keep getting more customers. So far all is well, I've got many more servers I can host before I need to worry about using a second machine.

If you only have like 1-2 slot soldat server than yeah. Otherwise I haven't heard of this.

Server prices are usually per slot. I rent out servers for $1/slot, or $0.50/slot for private servers

Bots usually count as slots, yes. I don't count bots as slots, but bots can actually strain our servers more than normal players.

Well, I am not sure am I 100% correct, but if you have 12 slots server, 8 bots, 4 slots for normal players, this loads the servers RAM and CPU more, but if you have 12 slots server, no bots, 12 players playing, this loads the connection more..

Also, having bots on the server is IMO, rather unnecessary. (Unless it is some sub-gamemode which needs bots)

Clawbug, what you said is mostly true, except bots load the connection almost as much as real players. All of the data is being sent out to everyone just as if they were real players, the only difference is that there is not 125 bytes/second being sent to the server, since it is a bot.

This amount of traffic is almost nothing compared to the amount being sent out for that player (125 bytes/second to each player in the server, for each player. See my "server bandwidth calculator" in Server Help for more information on how this is calculated)

Eh, my hosting doesn't count bot's as player slots so if someone wanted a zombie server with 20 bots and 10 players they would only have to order 10 slots. Bots do not affect the Max_Players of the server so I see no harm in it. +1 to me

I just edited my other post to reflect that I don't count bots as player slots either. I have been hosting a 6-player 20-zombie server for Elite CTF for quite some time.

Quick customer testimonial here, I have been renting from eC for 10 months now and have nothing but good to say about it. Comes with a nice PhP interface that is VERY easy to use once you know your way around running a server, and if you don't? Customer service is pretty topnotch, they will even help you with stuff that doesn't even pertain to your account, and help with general server hosting questions if you're polite about it and use their support ticket system.

My clan is north american based. Most Euros get pretty playable ping (i consider anything <160 to be playable, personally) on my eC rental, also most (but not all) Aussies, which is nice because it broadens my clan's access to potential clanwars on our home server. I suppose if you are Euro-based then I would recommend trying Selfkill first, they seem to be the premium Euro-based server rental service from what I understand. Aussie rental services, I can't say I know of any.

i have to say the same thing with u13. Flieslikeabrick has a pretty good based server system as well, The ping is fairly well. Most euros get 150 and AUS get around 200-266, It may not seem that great but then never seems to be much lag.

His prices are about the same as enesce but enesce charges 3 dollars for a soldat monitor which adds on to your monthly payment. However the soldat monitor comes free with u13 servers. ALso if ur US. FLAB servers are hosted in Chicago which is kinda towards the middle of the country. Therefor if u live anywhere in the US u get a pretty good based ping. He also lives in the US so hes on at the US time so i think hes pretty easy to contact

He always helps me with anything i need if he can. Half of it has nothing to do with the server i rent from him, and hes extremely smart and does the best he can with his servers, customers and anything else he can help in.

U13 doesn't use SoldatMonitor, the 'SoldatMonitor' on my service is an extra detection that is instant detection. U13 uses a 2-minute logfile checking script to detect crashes, which my servers also do for free. Just had to correct that misinformation there.

I rent from eC have had no problems great help I get great ping and im in Ontario (Canada). dam I gotta pay it soon!
