Disappearing interfaces
« on: January 10, 2011, 09:23:20 am »
As we saw, ppl liked Foxconn's ``pro´´ mod, so I thought there should be an option (just for registered) that if you don't get wounded, shoot, or throw a nade, use gas for five sexonds, interfaces disappear. It would be very much eyecandy,
and useful. I don't mean that they just BOM disappear, they could a bit by bit do it, or then slight down?
Sorry if I'm insolent.

Ah no, I didn't mean it. What I'm trying to say, that until you don't get hit or shoot/use gas, interface disappear after 5 seconds. And they come back when you get hit/shoot/use gas/throw a nade.
Sorry if I'm insolent.

I assume you misunderstood my post. What I meant was that it's pretty unusual to be without jets for five seconds or more, unless you're holding the flag or camping.

As fast paced as Soldat is, there would be no timeframe for the interface to disappear. Decreasing the time it would only be irritating because of the endless bouncing.

A visual aesthetic thats otherwise useless is a total waste of time imo. Just use an unobtrusive interface.

Thing is - the interface will appear when something happens, not when you want it. I'll rephrase that: you might want it to appear when nothing happens, or you'll want it to be out of the way when something does happen. And I'm sure for some players such cases will be common.

I for example sometimes check my health/ammo bars even when nothing happens (sometimes I just space out and forget about those things). Plus there's also the issue with jets that Dusty mentioned. So no, I don't think this feature would be useful.

Maybe if there was a way to permanently disable/enable the interface the same way as you can show/hide minimap - that I wouldn't mind being added because it's more controllable.

Implementing popping up s**t is arguably one of the worst possible additions to anything.

But whats the point of adding features (even as options) that will rarely be used? And if every such feature will be added "as an option" - we'll eventually end up with an ENORMOUS list of options.

I doubt this suggestion will be of any usefulness or popularity, therefore is a waste of time.

I'm sure you're bound to see the interface all the time in a fast-paced game because you'll be constantly jetting, shooting, getting shot, picking up grenades, picking up health kits... you get the idea. I'd personally believe that the constantly popping up is a lot more distracting than helpful too. Even if the popping out is pressed by a button like F1 shows the scores, I don't think players want to press a button just to check their health or ammo.

If you are that desperate for a less obvious-looking interface, get some custom interfaces which appear smaller, or, if it supports transparency, just make your interface translucent (appear less opaque).

It doesn't. Thats the reason I liked to see this, but I got already your point.  Soldat is too fast-paced for it, except tw or ttw. Well, now my another suggestion is, to make interfaces support PNG.

They (custom interfaces) are supporting transparency. You can set it's value even in default interface maker. In case you are not registered - convert images from your "Interface-gfx" into PNGs with any transparency level you want. There is also an "Interface_Status_Alpha=" setting in Soldat.ini (but it's behaviour is a bit weird)

If you keep the .bmp's in there too, i think soldat will load those instead of .png.

so make sure you don't have them there.

All graphics can be pngs or bmps. Pngs have priority in loading.
