Lucid dreams / semi-nightmares ?
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:14:24 pm »
heya

This post is boring, so don't read it unless you're really interested in controlling your dreams and mind energy.

I've been having those lucid dreams for a couple of days now, and just wanted to type it down cause they get more and more exciting.
For those who don't know what lucid dreams are:

Lucid dreams are dreams or nightmares in which you can rationally think and realize you're in a dream and you can sometimes control everything in that particular dream with your mind, including waking up.
--

So last night I went to sleep and I found myself (in a dream) standing in my classroom doing my everyday school stuff. As soon as I realized I was dreaming, I thought to myself "dude...I can do whatever I want here", so I went to my teacher and punched him in the kisser. As soon as I did that, I tried to wake up by force (yeah, hit and run).
Right then, I tried to wake myself up; but the weird thing is, right when I started doing that, I felt like a very hot energy wave or some sort was going trough my head from the back to my forehead.
After some seconds (yes, I did manage to count the seconds in the dream), I woke up in my bed, thinking to myself "woah... what a nightmare...". I wanted to go to the bathroom but as soon as I rose up and dropped my eyes to my room's door, I saw some weird looking...glowy creature with black eyes starring at me; then I realized I'm in a second dream and I need to try to wake up again.
After I did my magic of terror again, I woke up all sweaty, with a terrible head ache, right in the front of it, where I gathered my energy in that dream. And the screwed up part is that one lucid dream of mine only lasts like an hour before I wake up all tired and scared; Going trough this kind of stuff 5-6 times a night is pretty bad.

I don't know what to believe now...Am I really controlling these  dreams?
To be honest I'm pretty nervous to go to bed these days because as soon as I get into those lucid dreams I feel like my limbs, my head, my whole body has frozen up and I can only struggle to make a sound to wake myself up; though that's only the first phase that I go trough - before the actual dream.

I hope you didn't die of boredom / I got carried away with the writing.

Nobody controls anything, your mind gives you reason to believe you have free will by including "reason" before the context of action in memory but it occurs afterward. Dreams usually are a few minutes seemingly stretched into hours, it takes a while to get into deep rem. Although people on an uberman sleep schedule can drift between these states in a matter of minutes.

But what about the time I could control everything I did in that dream, including my own body, my own thoughts and perceptions...My brain/ or the "admin" of the dream only controlled the "map" I was playing on (classroom), but the player was user-controlled by me; plus I could swap between those dreams whenever I wanted to.

Reread my post. I know what you meant. "People make choices after they make decisions."- is another way to put it.

Quote
Although it is unclear whether the studies generalize to all processing, there is evidence that volitional movements are initiated, not by the conscious decision making self, but by the subconscious. See the Neuroscience of free will.
Quote
A recent study by Masao Matsuhashi and Mark Hallett [18] claims to have replicated Libet's findings without relying on subjective report or clock memorization on the part of participants. The authors believe that their method can identify the time (T) at which a subject becomes aware of her own movement. Matsuhashi and Hallet argue that this time not only varies, but often occurs after early phases of movement genesis have already begun (as measured by the readiness potential). They conclude that a person's awareness cannot be the cause of movement, and may instead only notice the movement.
Although again it depends on what you mean by you making decisions. You may as well refer to your brain as part of you so in that context you would be right. And I am not sure of these things btw just trying to add a different insight.

I had that wave of fire through the mind once when I was having a fever, as soon as I had the distinct realization that the dream logic 'folded up' into a glimpse of a higher dimension of sorts. It was painful and I never want to feel it again.

Well I really don't know what to say here...if it was me or some kind of decisions made by my brain subconsciously so that I understood them as my own choices made by me consciously...really no idea...

Thanks anyway for the material!

edit: i'm going to sleep now so if I have some new stuff to include in my post I'll make sure it happens tomorrow.

The main reason why I hate dreaming is because they consist of things that I wish would happen in real life but rarely do, such as girls.

I don't care about nightmares since the good dreams tend to become nightmares when I wake up.
There are other worlds than these

For lucid dreaming, i manage to get to the realization "hey, this is a dream", but i almost always get interrupted. A related thing is that ive managed a few times lately to have dreams which include music. Auditory dreams are awesome.

For semi-nightmares, i remember one dream (actually, it was 3 dreams on 3 separate nights) which included a pretty lovely visualization of Dys. Lovely dark/bloodish red tinted city like from Dante's Inferno. Even if the atmosphere was supposed to be nightmarish, i felt it quite relaxing, which is on the other hand even more disturbing when thinking of it.
The only thing i actually remember is that it wasnt the "OMIGOD, IM DOOMED!" hell, but more like "OHMYGOD ANCIENT PHILOSOPHERS IN THE LIBRARY OF VIVEC!" setting.
So, yeah. I visualized the Vivec library in Dys, the city of inferno, where all heretics end up.
I also remember that it included my discussion with one person, but i cant remember any details of it, or the person.
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

So I was in a classroom, which looked exactly like my school's classroom, and someone's phone is on the table and it gets a call and starts vibrating on the table.

I consider it a nuisance in the dream, but then the vibrating grew to a rumble, then inexplicably grew much louder than was possible from such a small device. About five seconds in [the dream], it grew to the point where I was just surrounded by f**king sound. My ear drums felt like they were about to split from the sheer sound and pressure.
Then I started waking up from this apparent nightmare, and I subtly realize that I am dreaming, and sort of tried to reassert myself back into it and silence the classroom, but it was no use. I was waking up, and it felt like a fish hook was pulling me up through the layers of consciousness my brain had set for me, and brought me back into the real world.

I need a totem.

then i woke up. i think i was in another dimension or something

I rarely remember dreams, but when I did - they stuck in my mind for quite awhile. So every time I woke up from another awesome dream - I would always replay the dream in my head over and over and think "hey, I should've done this and that instead".

I think eventually all those replays piled up deep inside my head, and when I was seeing similar dreams - I would sometimes go "Now's my chance! Now I'll try doing this and that that I didn't think of doing when I saw that dream before". Now when I see dreams - I often find myself thinking similar thoughts and taking similar actions. It's usually during those moments of deja vu that I realize that I'm having a dream.

It depends on a dream though. When it's very close to reality - it's hard to see the line between it and a dream. There was one time when I dreamed of my alarm clock going off and me having to wake up and go to college. I "woke up" around 3 times, turned alarm clock off, realized it was a dream and went back to sleep. When I REALLY woke up (on about the 4th time) - I realized that the 2nd time wasn't actually a dream and that the alarm clock really went off, but I went back to sleep cause I thought it was a dream. Got late to college that day. D:

You probably didn't notice, but I was in that one.

I once had a nightmare where I turned into sand and blew away in the wind, and then, in the end, the devil almost grabbed my soul. It was seriously the worst, most emotionally intense dream I'd ever had.

Most intense nightmare of mine is actually good for intro to a game like FEAR:

I was like a soldier in this crysis-kind of cabin, which was like an elevator with seats that was going down the earth into a long mine or something.
So everyone put their seat belt waiting for the elevator to go down. This little TV in the corner of the cabin which was (while we were waiting) transmitting some live vid with our commander or something, all of a sudden, brings a static noise , the transmission gets lost, and I hear some demonic voice saying/whispering: "Next stop...Hell." .
After that split second, the cabin went from 0 to 100 km/h i suppose in under one second as it was dropping down, the lights in it started to flicker, I couldn't hear anything but a high-pitched noise like after you get hit by a nade in soldat, and every soldier around me turned to molten corpses, while the heat was going up... All of this in like half of a second.
I guess it was haunted or something. VERY haunted :D

Pretty messed up.
