I dont have any experience with setting up servers etc, but I found ubuntu could nicely replace windows.

Troll harder, will ya. There's a reason why linux/unix has the majority market share in real server industries. I'm not talking about sharepoint ***gots, more along the line of dns, isp's, routers, and extremely trafficed web hosts. Look at the stats on netcraft. Maybe that'll release you from the micro$haft matrix veil that's made you a slave.
I was not bashing java; I was saying that oop is not a cure all for each job.
For server purpose i recommend Gentoo linux, unless you're a hardcore admin, then try LFS
It just is so much easier to do things like "ps -A | grep opera" than to do ctrl+alt+del, click on "Show Task Manager", click on "Processes" tab and try to figure out if there's an instance of Opera running or not.. ..from a list of +40 processes.
