Optimism is defeated by misinterpretation (because well intentioned people tend to second-guess themselves if it’s for the greater good – they want to do what’s better, even if it’s against what they want – especially if the skeptic or cynic is a close and trusted friend... and they’re sometimes the worst friends to have). Trust is volatile--once earned, it can be easily abused and taken advantage of... agh, human nature. That's why there needs to be both trust and shrewdness, but not an extreme -- not "either, or." It’s when you’ve abused trust that your optimism goes ‘bye bye’ and is replaced by calamity.
For me games are art. 'nuff said.
