In the same way we should have world peace -- it's an idealistic and superficial idea. Honestly, I think that's too much to expect from the internet. People like Foxconn exist everywhere, and they've existed since there were Humans at all. The internet merely serves to exaggerate these faults.

I think that some of you feed off the satisfaction of persecuting Foxconn's neediness because you still have your own insecurities. I'm also sure that many if not all will deny that, but actions speak louder than words. I'm not telling you to grow up though, because having insecurities is not some sort of stigma. It's a natural state born out of experience and lack of experience. As a product of experience, it might take years to resolve and that sort of stuff can't be hurried. However I think everyone should be aware of it at least, since it affects how we treat others.

I'd like to append that the popular call for forum goers to "grow up" and "be mature" is often counterproductive as many adolescents take to a pretentious form of maturity thinking stoicism and contrarian views are adequate substitutes for experience. There is no substitute for wisdom from experience. It cannot be bought or hurried in any way. You don't need to grow up. In fact, even though I personally might be frustrated with some of the opinions you have, keep voicing them as you always have had until your own mind changes.
This is also a note for forum moderators. There's a reason why only admins and mods are entrusted with the ability to censor and ban. It's our responsibility to weed the self-serving opinions out. A hundred people with the same self-serving opinion is not the same as a hundred people with the same opinion that helps the whole. Democracy is not an excuse to be mindless.

Yes, telling someone to "grow up" will not make them grow up in an instant.  No, that doesn't mean we have to deal with them in the meantime.

If you take your kids to a nice restaurant and they do nothing but run around the table screaming and annoying the other patrons, the owner has every right to tell you to get them out of there.  Try the "well you can't rush growing up" line on him.  See what happens.  It doesn't work, right? You have to keep them out of the restaurant until they're mature enough to handle it.  In the meantime, take them to Chuck E. Cheese or something.

I don't disagree with the ban. He does need time off, as you outlined in your restaurant analogy. I suppose I wanted to use this opportunity to call to attention forum conduct, using some other ideas beyond "be mature."

I won't say any more on the matter actually since it doesn't deserve too much attention.

Edit: I've decided to contest whether that is truly abuse of ad hominem. Firstly if I understand it correctly ad hominem occurs if I'm using a personal attack against an opponent's claim as an unrelated way to draw the conversation down another route. I attempted to resolve ds's statement about common sense in my first paragraph while the second part is wholly unrelated and is not an argument. When I said "some of you" it did not necessarily pertain to ds either. Wikipedia [groan] states: "...in some instances, questions of personal conduct, character, motives, etc., are legitimate and relevant to the issue." I believe my statement to be relevant to the issue I was bringing to the table and did not constitute an ad hominem attack.

Man, the internet is terrible. Hahaha, you can trim and preen your little internet image carefully and subtly, and such ways that the good natured people will either despise you or think fondly of you. Once you understand yourself and then others [to some fair degree], it's on. You see what I mean by terrible? It's sometimes terribly hard to tell who's legit and who's an image-preening false jackass (such as... Foxconn, although I can't really be sure even about him, because even then, that could just be part of who he legitimately is--I can't really know); who's real or who's fake. Ridiculous...

So I suppose it comes down to the individual's responsibility to be mature, honest, careful, and open [within reason]. It comes down to the individual to portray their opinions correctly and maturely--and if they bomb, to indifferently correct the misunderstanding/misinterpretation. The trolls are generally fellas who look for the craziest possible interpretations of various things, and then exploit that. Sometimes it's a beautiful process.
