If you mean that is everyone using 1.5, then yes. It's still the official client right now.

Agreed; the game was fashionable five years ago. And that's that.

If you're looking for fancy graphics, vehicles - heck, DRAGONFLIES - go play some epic FPS games like CoD or Crisis. If you still feel the urge to whine on every single topic that you want more stuff in Soldat, go blog about it.

[retard]
ontopic: you can´t expect same or even more activity on any game with such an age, especially then if there are no frequently updates.

changes like a proper GUI, having a proper manual, an Account System would give the activitiy a boost as well.

the clan scene (irc, sctfl, gathers and stuff) isn´t that inactive if you think about how old soldat actually is.

Just the fact that there are rarely new players which could be changed by some changes i mentioned above.

DarkCrusade is right. Soldat is what it is, and it's what we all fell in love with all those years ago. You can't expect it to keep up with new trends. Hell, you couldn't even expect that when it came out, so if you're looking for massive updates, you're searching in vain. But then again, if we did change soldat to fit modern categories better, would it really be soldat?

Back in the day, Soldat worked so well because it had such simplicity. You just jump in a game and start spanking. To do so you have a small variety of weapons, some grenades, and that's that. Even though there have been changes to the game, I'm so happy to see the game is still basically the same.

So, while I would accept certain changes, like boosting userfriendlyness(darDar had a few ideas that seemed reasonable), I really hope you'll settle for little to no changes in the actual gameplay. Don't worry too much. Shoozza's at the wheel, and that's certain to bring about a few changes to the better. But honestly, you can't expect soldat to get an ever increasing userbase. It's just too old. How many people play D2:LoD now compared to the glory days? It's the same thing.

Yeah... in most cases you are right but you know what it mean's leave soldat with small changes will not bring new players and it will die out... or try somthing new maybe it will work...(bring some life back to it ) o_O

You're not paying attention. You can't change soldat enough to really bring in the new meat, without simultaniously changing the game into something else. I don't know what your ideas are, but vehicles, mystic puzzles and an MMORPG feature is not going to bring new people in either.

Because it doesn't fit Soldat, not a bit.
As echo said earlier, this kind of change (I prefer calling it a mutation...) would make Soldat something it's not, a different game, and it wouldn't have what it takes to be as great as Soldat is.

Echo is completely correct.

Games, like any other form of entertainment, have a dead zone when they're neither new enough to be hip nor old enough to be a classic. It would be a fatal mistake to think that expanding the game would attract new players; the people attracted by a new feature would drop the game just as quickly as they picked it up because they're only playing Soldat to check out the new feature.

The fact that there's been a lack of new players does not mean that Soldat has lost any of the qualities that attracted the community it has now. Much of the target audience still have memories of what Soldat is. The people who still play Soldat are the ones that truly love the game. And perhaps that's what it is -- love. You can't win back the people who have lost love for Soldat. Trying to reimagine Soldat to attract those people is akin to the desperate acts of a former lover, and I'm sure you all know that it doesn't work. Soldat needs to find new love through refinement of what it already is along with continued promotion. Promotion is huge. I hear way more about new features and not enough about how to get more kids to enjoy Soldat. It doesn't matter what new features you have if you're just announcing it to the same tired community. If you want new people, tell new people. Make sure you're targeting the right audience. Targeting people your age that have either already had or rejected the Soldat experience is a waste of time. Soldat is not new, but it can be new to a younger generation.

The future of the Soldat community lies in people who've never heard of Soldat before, not in people who've gotten bored of Soldat.

Except most of the people that "love Soldat so much" don't even care enough to try/persist in taking Soldat out to the people around them. It's called laziness I believe.

They might, but I know many people just keep it to the people they think are 'cool.' Keep in mind no community lives on 100% cool. You might end up having to talk to a bunch of silly kids below your age, but they're the real new blood because they've never had the Soldat experience before.  Trying to re-sell Soldat to our age group is about the same as trying to impregnate a pregnant woman.

Announcing about Soldat in big places, (example game rating pages) telling it and making people to see it is the best and easiest way to bring new players. Some might like it, some might not, I guess that 40% of those who see Soldat play it at least some time. The fact that soldat still is after nine years, proves the best that Soldat has limitless potential. In Soldat there are so many different gamemodes -were they scripted or official- that if people just are patient enough to search, everyone of those 40% will find their gamemode. Not everything needs to be Minecraft success story, I bet that with hard work Soldat still remains after five years.
Sorry if I'm insolent.

Soldat DOES have great potential, but people just fail to see that.

I don't see why Soldat can't get new players if we did the right things to it. The new game 'Minecraft' is an example that people don't care how it looks, as long as it's a good game and as long as it's headed the right direction.
Personally I still love Soldat, but I am too old to be that active. The long periods of no progression has made me tired too, but I take greate interest in the new beta-team. Right now I feel it's more fun to help Soldat get better then to actually play it <3
